In a swift and well-coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) mission, the Indian Coast Guard successfully evacuated an injured fisherman from a distressed fishing vessel off the Gujarat coast, underscoring the service’s vital humanitarian role in safeguarding lives at sea.
Responding to a medical distress alert from the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Guru Krupa, the Indian Coast Guard Ship C-149, operating from Veraval, immediately proceeded to the location nearly 23 nautical miles offshore to carry out the rescue operation.
The fisherman, who had sustained serious injuries while at sea, was safely embarked onto the Coast Guard vessel. The crew quickly initiated medical assistance and transported the injured man to the Coast Guard Jetty at Veraval, where further emergency care was arranged.
On arrival, the patient received immediate treatment from the Station Medical Officer before being shifted to Veraval Government Hospital for advanced medical management.
Officials said the rapid response and seamless coordination ensured that the fisherman received timely medical attention — a critical factor in saving lives during maritime emergencies.
