The initiative is aimed at strengthening India Post’s position in the rapidly evolving logistics sector by offering premium express delivery with guaranteed timelines, particularly for businesses and individuals handling critical and time-sensitive documents and parcels.
A Major Logistics Upgrade for Metro Cities
In the first phase, the 24 Speed Post service will be available across six major metropolitan hubs:
- Delhi
- Mumbai
- Chennai
- Kolkata
- Bengaluru
- Hyderabad
Officials say these cities were selected due to their high postal traffic and strategic role in India’s business and logistics ecosystem.
The service promises assured next-day (D+1) delivery, supported by dedicated processing windows and priority air transportation for faster movement of consignments.

The revamped Speed Post ecosystem will include a suite of digital and operational features designed to enhance reliability and convenience:

These enhancements are expected to position India Post as a strong competitor in the premium express logistics segment.
Government’s Vision for Modern Postal Services
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasised the need for faster and more reliable logistics services to support India’s growing digital and commercial economy.
“The launch of 24 Speed Post reflects our commitment to transform India Post into a technology-driven, customer-centric logistics network capable of meeting the demands of modern India,” he said.
Minister of State Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani highlighted the service’s importance for businesses and startups.
“With guaranteed next-day delivery and advanced digital tracking, the new service will greatly benefit enterprises, e-commerce platforms and citizens who depend on time-critical deliveries,” he noted.
Boost for Chennai’s Business Ecosystem
Industry observers say the inclusion of Chennai in the first phase is significant, given the city’s growing importance as a hub for manufacturing, IT services, exports and e-commerce logistics.
Logistics experts believe the service could help improve last-mile delivery efficiency and support faster movement of documents, legal papers and high-priority parcels.
A Step Toward a Competitive Logistics Future
With private courier companies dominating the express delivery market, India Post’s new service signals a renewed effort by the government to modernise the country’s postal network.
Analysts say the introduction of guaranteed delivery timelines and digital integration could significantly enhance the competitiveness of India Post in the rapidly expanding logistics sector.
