In a decisive move to curb unaccounted money in the run-up to the General Election 2026 in Puducherry, the Income Tax Department’s Investigation Wing has activated a round-the-clock Control Room to track and act against illicit election expenditure across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Acting on directives from the Election Commission of India, the Directorate General of Income-tax (Investigation) has intensified surveillance to detect and seize unaccounted cash, jewellery, and other inducements meant to influence voters.

Officials have urged the public to share credible information on the storage, possession, or movement of large amounts of cash, valuables, or distribution of freebies. “All informants’ identities will be kept strictly confidential,” the department assured, reinforcing trust and encouraging citizen participation in clean elections.
