VARANASI, APR 9

In a major push to unify and modernise campus communication, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has rolled out official @bhu.ac.in email IDs for all its students, marking a decisive shift towards faster, secure, and authenticated academic interaction.

The initiative extends a facility that was earlier limited to faculty, staff, and PhD scholars, and is now being expanded to benefit approximately 18,000–20,000 students, creating a single, trusted communication backbone for the entire university.

From Fragmented Messages to One Verified Channel

With every student now onboarded to the official domain, BHU aims to eliminate communication gaps and ensure authenticity.

The university said the move will “promote and facilitate hassle-free and effective communication and intra-institutional interaction among stakeholders.”

The official IDs will also curb misuse and impersonation, offering each student a verified digital identity within the BHU ecosystem.

Smarter Messaging, Sharper Outreach

The system enables audience-specific communication, allowing the university to create groups based on:

  • Undergraduate (UG)
  • Postgraduate (PG)
  • Streams like Science, Arts, Humanities

This ensures targeted, relevant, and timely updates, reaching the right students without delays.

24×7 Access, Zero Physical Barriers

With the new system, students can directly connect with university authorities—from Heads of Departments to Deans and the Controller of Examinations—without visiting offices physically.

Important notifications will now be routed through the official email IDs, ensuring round-the-clock communication irrespective of location.

Leadership Speaks — Bridging Students & System

Vice-Chancellor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said: “This is an important step to bring students closer to their teachers, departments, and of course the University. It is important that students become more aware of university policies, important decisions and updates and at the same time, faculty members also become more aware of students’ issues.”

Tech Backbone & National Benchmark

Rajesh Kumar, Coordinator, Computer Centre, highlighted: “BHU is among a few select central universities in the country providing this facility to all its students.”

The rollout is powered by the SAMARTH Portal, with the Computer Centre managing implementation. The university has also strengthened its infrastructure by procuring additional Google Workspace licences and cloud storage, ensuring enhanced security, spam protection, and reliability.

With this move, BHU is not just issuing email IDs—it is building a digitally connected academic community, where every student is just one official click away from the institution.
