AHMEDABAD, APR 13

In a major boost to citizen-centric digital services, the Unique Identification Authority of India inaugurated an advanced Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in Surat, reinforcing its mission to deliver faster, transparent and inclusive identity services.

The new facility, located at Tulsi Krupa Arcade, was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha Member Govindbhai Laljibhai Dholakia in the presence of senior officials including Lovekesh Thakur and Rajesh Kumar Gupta, along with representatives of Protean eGov Technologies Ltd, the lead operations agency.

Equipped with modern infrastructure, trained staff and streamlined systems, the centre is designed to provide efficient Aadhaar enrolment and update services while minimising waiting time through digital appointment booking.

Highlighting inclusivity, the facility offers dedicated service counters for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and pregnant women, along with a feeding room for mothers—ensuring a comfortable experience for all sections of society.

Speaking at the inauguration,  Govindbhai Dholakia commended the initiative, stressing the importance of timely biometric updates. “He urged Surat residents to make full use of the new Aadhaar centre and highlighted the need for completing Mandatory Biometric Updates for children,” he said.

Emphasising Aadhaar’s broader impact, Lovekesh Thakur said, “Aadhaar is a social contract, playing a vital role in grassroots empowerment, document digitisation and seamless identity verification.” He added that UIDAI’s expansion plans will significantly strengthen last-mile service delivery across the country.

UIDAI has also launched a mission-mode campaign for Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU), urging parents and schools to ensure children update biometrics at ages 5 and 15. This is critical for uninterrupted access to scholarships and major examinations such as NEET and CUET.

Looking ahead, UIDAI plans to scale up Aadhaar Seva Kendras from 88 to 473 by September 2026, ensuring wider access with at least one full-service centre in every two districts. In Gujarat alone, new centres are planned across 22 districts including Rajkot, Vadodara, Gandhinagar and Bhavnagar.

The initiative underscores UIDAI’s commitment to building a digitally empowered India where Aadhaar continues to serve as a trusted and inclusive identity platform.
