CHENNAI, APR 21

In a high-impact, voter-centric outreach, Sholinganallur AIADMK candidate and former MLA K P Kandan has launched an intensive “grievance mapping” drive—covering every nook and corner of the constituency—that is resonating strongly with residents, especially in gated communities.

For the past few days, the candidate has been reaching out to “learned voters” through his daughter-in-law, Dr Shruti, who has been personally interacting with residents, documenting civic issues, and outlining a roadmap for swift redressal.

  • Doorstep democracy meets data-driven governance in Sholinganallur
  • AIADMK’s K P Kandan rolls out ward-level grievance mapping across gated communities
  • Civic pain points—from garbage to Metro Water—captured for time-bound solutions
  • App-based redressal, mini-bus connectivity among key promises
  • “Vote to claim your rights”: 100% polling call for April 23

At a focused interaction on Saturday, Dr Shruti spent over an hour with office-bearers of Residents Welfare Assocation of Vishrathi Sabari Apartments on Wipro Street, off Rajiv Gandhi IT Expressway (OMR), listening patiently to a range of pressing concerns.

Civic gaps take centre stage

Praveen, president of the association, along with residents, flagged critical issues:

  • Non-removal of segregated garbage by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) staff, coupled with threats of a ₹5,000 fine
  • Lack of Metro Water connectivity and underground drainage (UGD) systems
  • Poor street lighting and absence of proper stormwater drains on both sides of the road
  • Need for frequent police patrolling to curb late-night anti-social activities
  • Demand for a foot-over bridge across OMR near Wipro Street

Responding to these concerns, Dr Shruti assured residents that all grievances would be addressed within a year if the AIADMK returns to power.

“Almost every gated community I’ve interacted with has voiced similar concerns. We are documenting each issue to ensure targeted, time-bound solutions,” she said.

Smart solutions, ground-level impact

Beyond grievance collection, the campaign is pivoting toward actionable solutions:

  • Introduction of ‘Sitrundhu’ (mini-bus) services in narrow interior roads to support daily commuters, especially housemaids
  • Development of a dedicated mobile App for registering and tracking civic complaints

“I am planning to develop an App to receive and redress the grievances from the public within a time-frame,” Dr Shruti stated.

Bridging people and power

The campaign also promises institutionalised engagement between citizens and authorities.

“If Mr Kandan wins, he will convene meetings of residents’ welfare associations and officials from various departments once every two to three months to ensure continuous follow-up and accountability,” she added.

Call for 100% voting

Ending on a strong civic note, Dr Shruti urged residents to turn out in full strength on polling day.

“Exercise your voting power to claim your rights and ensure 100 per cent voting on April 23,” she appealed.
