In a significant stride towards advancing women’s healthcare, renowned laparoscopic and gynaec oncology expert Dr Dipak Limbachiya spearheaded a two-day intensive training programme for surgeons at the EVA Endoscopic Institute, housed within EVA Women’s Hospital, Ahmedabad.
Widely recognised for his pioneering contributions to minimally invasive surgery, Dr Limbachiya has trained over 4,000 doctors globally over the past decade. This latest programme brought together 15 surgeons from across India, offering them a rare blend of high-volume clinical exposure and structured academic learning.
The immersive training focused on both core and advanced laparoscopic procedures, including hysterectomy, myomectomy, and complex endometriosis cases involving rectal structures. Participants also gained deeper insights into tissue handling, energy devices, haemostasis, ergonomics, workflow efficiency, and complication management—critical aspects that define surgical excellence.
A major highlight was the live surgical demonstrations, where trainees observed nearly 10 procedures performed by Dr Dipak Limbachiya, who explained each step and decision in real time—bridging theory with practice in an operating room setting.
Reflecting on the programme’s impact, Dr Dipak Limbachiya said, “By the end of the programme, the trainees had acquired practical, transferable skills that can be immediately applied to enhance patient safety and operative success at their respective centres.”
The initiative also ensured affordability, with patients undergoing surgeries during the programme charged only nominal fees—making advanced care more accessible.
The training was supported by Johnson & Johnson MedTech India under its Gynaecological Oncology Learning and Observation Programme (GALOP), which aims to expand access to real-time, high-quality surgical learning environments.
With gynaecological cancers such as cervical, ovarian and endometrial cancers contributing significantly to India’s disease burden, such initiatives play a vital role in equipping surgeons with advanced, life-saving skills—ultimately improving outcomes for patients nationwide.
