The state government has sought permission from the central government to establish four more medical colleges in the state, said Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami here on Monday.
Handing over the appointment orders to 2,721 staff nurses, 1,782 village health nurses, 96 medical officers, 524 laboratory technicians, 77 physiotherapists and 24 junior assistants at the secretariat, Dr. Palaniswami said that the government has sought permission to establish four more medical colleges in Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Kanchipuram and the newly inaugurated Kallakkurichi districts.
Union government gave its nod for establishing 9 more medical colleges with 150 MBBS seat each during the last two months, with this, the number of medical colleges have gone up to 33 from 24.
The chief minister said that officials have been instructed to establish nine medical colleges, including purchase of medical equipments, appointment faculty members and staffs and infrastructure facilities. With the establishment of 9 medical colleges, additionally 8,000 new employments were created.
As on Monday, a total number of 27,436 persons, including 12,823 doctors and 10,085 nurses have been recruited through the Medical Services Recruitment Board, the chief minister said.
Earlier, the chief minister chaired a meeting to discuss about the preparedness to meet emergencies due to North-East monsoon intensified across the state for the last two days. Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management R.B. Udhayakumar, Principal Secretary Radhakrishnan and other officials took part in the meeting.
