AHMEDABAD, MAY 1

Marking International Labour Day 2026, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, delivered a deeply reflective and forward-looking address, positioning workers not merely as contributors—but as “nation-builders” at the heart of India’s growth story.

Launching the internal dialogue initiative “Apni Baat, Apno ke Saath”, Adani emphasised the importance of collective learning and participation in shaping the Group’s future.

“Today is our day… a celebration of hard work”

Calling Labour Day a tribute to resilience and determination, Adani said: “Today is our day—it is a day for all of us… for every individual who believes in the power of hard work and has the courage to face challenges.”

He added: “It is not just a date, but a celebration of the spirit that gives a person the strength to realise his dreams.”

Every Contribution Counts

Drawing from the Ramayan’s squirrel analogy, Adani highlighted the value of even the smallest effort:
“What matters is not how much of a difference my grains of sand make; what matters is that it cannot be said that I did not make my contribution.”

He urged employees to view their roles beyond routine tasks: “When we complete a project, we are not simply finishing a task—we are shaping the future of our country.”

 Projects as Pillars of Nation-Building

From transforming barren land into Mundra Port to developing Vizhinjam Port, Khavda’s green energy hub, and the Navi Mumbai International Airport, Adani framed each initiative as a symbol of India’s rising global stature.

On the ambitious Dharavi redevelopment, he stated: “This is not merely a project… it is perhaps the world’s most challenging endeavour in human transformation.”
“We did not take this up for profit, but because Dharavi stands as a symbol of our collective failure—and we wish to change that.”

Three Transformations to Drive the Future

Adani outlined three strategic pillars to accelerate growth:

  • 3-Layer Model: Faster decision-making and empowered teams
  • Partnership Model: Stronger collaboration with contractors and vendors
  • Learning & Development: Continuous upskilling through initiatives like the Adani Training Academy

“These are not separate changes—they are like a Triveni Sangam… their true power emerges when they come together.”

‘Panchtatva’—Five Elements of Workforce Strength

Reinforcing a people-first philosophy, Adani detailed five core principles:

  • Priority to local employment
  • Continuous skill development
  • Clear career progression
  • Fair and timely compensation
  • Dignified living conditions

“This is not a privilege—it is the right of every working person.”

He revealed plans for air-conditioned housing for 50,000 workers and a mega cloud kitchen serving one lakh nutritious meals daily.

A Collective Identity, A Shared Future

Reflecting on the Group’s journey from a 20-member team in Mundra to over 4 lakh workforce today, Adani said:
“Even if I may not remember every name, the bond I share with you remains just as strong.”

In a powerful closing message, he declared:
“You are not merely labourers… you are nation-builders.”

Calling for a unified pledge, he urged:
“Let us see our work not merely as a job, but as a contribution to nation-building.”
