If Ahmedabad Fashion Week 2026 celebrated the future of Indian fashion, NIFT Gandhinagar emerged as its defining force, presenting a spectacular showcase that elevated the runway beyond glamour into a powerful expression of culture, sustainability and design innovation.

Held at Hotel Hyatt Regency, Ahmedabad, the prestigious fashion extravaganza witnessed NIFT Gandhinagar commanding attention with collections that blended India’s timeless textile traditions with contemporary aesthetics and forward-looking design philosophies, earning widespread appreciation from industry leaders, buyers, fashion enthusiasts and creative professionals.
Under the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Sameer Sood, Director, the institute once again demonstrated why it continues to set benchmarks in fashion, technology, management and design education while championing India’s rich textile and craft heritage.
Guided by Prof. Sood’s philosophy that Indian textiles are not merely fabrics but symbols of the nation’s cultural identity and economic strength, the students unveiled a remarkable collection inspired by the enduring legacy of khadi and its historic contribution to India’s freedom movement.
Drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Golden India: Heritage and Development,” the young designers reinterpreted the cultural essence of India’s diverse regions through a contemporary lens, creating garments that celebrated heritage while embracing innovation and sustainability.
The collection was designed by Yutika Damani, Archi Jethwani, Ankit Singh, Teesha Vijayraj, Charvi, Pari Oza, Bhoomika Arora, Shivi and Sneha Chabra under the academic mentorship of Mr. Asit Bhatt, Associate Professor, and Mr. Gaurav Sharma, Assistant Professor.
The runway presentation showcased a series of visually arresting and intellectually layered collections that reflected the creativity, research orientation and conceptual maturity of NIFT Gandhinagar’s student designers.
Exploring themes ranging from India’s cultural heritage and nature-inspired narratives to personal journeys, emotional experiences and spiritual explorations, the collections demonstrated how fashion can transcend aesthetics to become a meaningful medium for storytelling, identity and social consciousness.
Through innovative surface ornamentation, sustainable materials, experimental textiles and thoughtful design interventions, the students crafted compelling narratives examining memory, emotion, culture and humanity’s evolving relationship with clothing and the environment.
Each ensemble reflected a harmonious balance between creativity and functionality, illustrating fashion’s growing role in fostering environmental awareness, responsible consumption and emotional connection.
The showcase emerged as a vibrant confluence of heritage-inspired aesthetics, artisanal craftsmanship, contemporary silhouettes and futuristic eco-conscious practices, reinforcing NIFT Gandhinagar’s unwavering commitment to sustainability, innovation and responsible design education.
By embracing technological advancements, material experimentation and changing consumer aspirations while remaining rooted in India’s textile traditions, the collections celebrated fashion’s transformative power to preserve heritage, spark dialogue and inspire a more sustainable and inclusive future.
