Every compelling thriller begins with a whisper. But sometimes, that whisper belongs not just to the story—it belongs to the young mind daring to tell it.
In an age dominated by fleeting digital content, Ahmedabad witnessed the birth of a promising literary voice as higher secondary student and budding author Dixa Patel officially launched her debut English psychological suspense thriller, “Twisted Whispers,” at the Ahmedabad Management Association.
The literary event was graced by Deputy Mayor of Ahmedabad Anjubenh Shah as Chief Guest, while celebrated author, movie screenwriter and artist Sonalben Odedara, along with AI expert, visiting professor and founder of Sahitya Manch and V-Publishers, Visionbhai Raval, attended as Special Guests.
A Story Born from the Shadows of the Human Mind
While the title promises mystery, Dixa Patel reveals that the novel was inspired less by crime itself and more by her fascination with the complexities hidden within ordinary people.
“I have always wanted to write about the complexities of the human mind and its hidden secrets. Twisted Whispers is not just a fictional story, but an experiment that will make the readers’ minds think. I hope suspense lovers will like this book very much,” she said.
Expanding on the inspiration behind the novel, Dixa explained that the story grew out of her observations of how people often conceal emotional scars, regrets and unresolved trauma beneath seemingly normal lives.
According to the young author, the novel seeks to remind readers that every action has a hidden story and that truth often lies beneath layers of silence. Beyond its mystery, she hopes the book encourages readers to look beyond appearances and understand the psychological battles that shape human behaviour.
Twists That Surprise Without Losing Reality
The novel revolves around conspiracy, revenge and long-buried secrets.
Readers are introduced to protagonists Mia Porter and Detective Mira Patel, whose investigation begins with the discovery of social media star Julia Montgomery’s body inside an abandoned amusement park and gradually uncovers the chilling history of St. Helena Orphanage.
Clumps of hair left at crime scenes, a mysterious locket and the enigmatic figure known only as “The Ferryman” weave together a narrative filled with psychological tension and unexpected revelations.
The arrival of Logan further intensifies the suspense, while the haunting line—
“To the past that tried to break me—I hope you are watching.”
—signals that the novel is as much about emotional survival as it is about solving a murder.
Dixa says one of her greatest creative challenges was maintaining the delicate balance between shocking readers and preserving realism.
Rather than relying on sensational twists, she built every revelation upon carefully planted clues and believable character motivations, ensuring that every surprise emerges naturally from the story’s psychological foundation.
Turning Doubt into Determination
For a debut author entering an intensely competitive publishing world, the journey from imagination to publication was anything but effortless.
Dixa acknowledges that moments of uncertainty and self-doubt accompanied every stage of writing. Yet perseverance, continuous rewriting and faith in her story helped transform an idea into a published novel.
Reflecting on her own experience, she offers an encouraging message to aspiring writers: “Don’t wait for perfection before you begin. Every writer faces rejection and self-doubt, but the only stories that never succeed are the ones left unwritten. Read widely, write consistently and trust your own voice because authenticity will always find its readers.”
Literary Community Applauds Emerging Talent
Deputy Mayor of Ahmedabad Anjubenh Shah extended her warm wishes to the young author, saying: “My best wishes to the budding author for coming out with her debutant novel. Also let this book be one of the best sellers of this year. Dixa Patel’s parents deserve a pat for facilitating and encouraging her to write this novel despite being a student of higher secondary. Present-day youth dream big and realise it with sheer dedication and hardwork.”
Visionbhai Raval, founder of Sahitya Manch and V-Publishers, praised the author’s literary talent and observed: “In this digital age, students are turning to cultivate the good habit of reading books, which is a welcome trend.”
Celebrated author, movie screenwriter, artist and founder of the Heartiest Art Group, Sonalben Odedara, also lauded the young novelist and remarked: “The art of literature is blooming in Gujarat. This is a good development.”
More Than a Debut—A New Voice for Young India
With its psychological depth, layered storytelling and emotionally charged suspense, Twisted Whispers represents more than a debut novel—it signals the arrival of a fearless young storyteller willing to explore the darker corners of memory, identity and human emotion.
At a time when many teenagers consume stories on screens, Dixa Patel has chosen to create one on paper—proving that imagination, discipline and courage can still turn whispers into words and words into lasting literature.
The novel is now available at leading bookstores and online platforms, including Amazon, while review copies can be obtained through the office of V-Publishers at Orchid Mall, Thaltej, Ahmedabad.
