In a landmark tribute to India’s maritime guardians, the Government of Gujarat has etched the legacy of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) into the state’s landscape by renaming the CHH-4B Circle in Gandhinagar as “Bharatiya Tatrakshak Swarn Jayanti Circle.” The historic initiative commemorates the completion of five decades of the Indian Coast Guard’s distinguished service to the nation and stands as a symbol of the force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime interests.

The newly christened circle was inaugurated by Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi in the presence of Inspector General Tekur Sashi Kumar, TM, Commander, Indian Coast Guard Region (North West), senior state government dignitaries, Indian Coast Guard veterans, officers and enrolled personnel, marking another milestone in the enduring partnership between Gujarat and the maritime force.

Significantly, the landmark is the first-ever public circle in the country dedicated exclusively to the Indian Coast Guard, making it a unique national tribute to the organisation’s golden jubilee.

Thoughtfully conceptualised, the “Bharatiya Tatrakshak Swarn Jayanti Circle” reflects the multifaceted operational capabilities and indomitable spirit of the Indian Coast Guard through an impressive blend of symbolism and technology.

At its centre stands a model of an Indian Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), representing maritime deterrence, operational dominance and the protection of Gujarat’s coastline and India’s maritime borders. Complementing it are models of a Dornier aircraft and an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), showcasing the force’s rapid-response capability, aerial surveillance excellence and expanding maritime reach.

Adding a human dimension to the memorial are statues of Indian Coast Guard personnel, symbolising the force’s eternal vigilance and selfless dedication to national service. A state-of-the-art digital wall continuously displays Coast Guard operations and achievements, offering visitors an immersive glimpse into the organisation’s diverse responsibilities.

The striking display is expected not only to enhance public awareness about the Indian Coast Guard’s critical role but also to reassure citizens that the force remains on constant watch 24×7×365, protecting the nation’s maritime domain without interruption.

The inauguration reflects the Gujarat Government’s inclusive vision and strong commitment towards recognising the service of a uniformed force that works relentlessly to defend Bharat’s vast maritime frontiers.

Beyond being a civic landmark, the circular arena is envisioned as a permanent source of inspiration for future generations, highlighting the Bharatiya Tatrakshak’s immense contribution to coastal security, maritime law enforcement, environmental conservation, disaster response, humanitarian assistance and nation-building, while fostering a deeper sense of national pride and respect for the country’s frontline maritime defenders.
