GANDHINAGAR, JULY 3
In a citizen-friendly initiative aimed at encouraging timely tax compliance, the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) has extended its 10% incentive rebate for advance property tax payments and the interest waiver scheme until July 31, 2026, enabling more property owners to avail themselves of the attractive financial benefits.
The decision comes in response to the overwhelming public participation witnessed during the initial phase of the schemes. Earlier scheduled to conclude on June 30, the benefits have now been extended to ensure that taxpayers who could not make payments within the original deadline also get an opportunity to take advantage of the incentives.
Property owners making payments through the online mode will continue to receive an additional 2% rebate, taking the total incentive to 12% on advance payment of property tax during the extended period.
The Municipal Corporation reported an impressive response between April 1 and June 30, during which 96,086 taxpayers paid ₹45.50 crore in property tax, making a significant contribution to the civic body’s revenue.
Digital payments emerged as the preferred mode of tax payment, with 62,940 taxpayers depositing ₹26.08 crore online and directly benefiting from the 12% incentive rebate. Online transactions accounted for 65.5% of the total collections and taxpayer participation, highlighting the growing adoption of digital governance among Gandhinagar residents.
The interest waiver scheme, which was introduced on March 1, has also been extended until July 31.
Under the scheme, 100% interest waiver is being offered on outstanding property tax dues for residential properties, while non-residential property owners are eligible for a 50% interest waiver.
So far, 15,310 defaulting taxpayers have benefited from the initiative, collectively receiving interest relief worth ₹1.78 crore.
Encouraged by the exceptional public response, the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has appealed to all remaining property owners to make the most of the extended schemes by clearing their pending dues within the revised deadline.
The civic body said timely payment of property tax not only enables citizens to enjoy financial incentives but also strengthens municipal resources required for infrastructure development, public services and the continued growth of Gujarat’s capital city.
