GLS University on Saturday reimagined the traditional orientation programme by launching “Decoded @ GLS”, an immersive thought-leadership series that offered budding legal professionals an intimate window into the mind of one of India’s most respected legal luminaries, transforming the beginning of an academic journey into an unforgettable lesson in law, leadership and life.
The inaugural edition featured Sudhir Nanavati, President of GLS University, Vice President of Gujarat Law Society and Senior Advocate of the High Court and Supreme Court of India, in an engaging conversation with Dr. Chandni Kapadia, Executive Director of GLS University, before students of the Integrated Law, Three-Year LL.B. and LL.M. programmes.
Rather than a formal address, the session evolved into an inspiring exchange of ideas, experiences and values, allowing students to discover the person behind the accomplished lawyer and institution builder.
Reflecting on the formative influences that shaped his remarkable journey, Sudhir Nanavati spoke about the enduring importance of discipline, integrity, humility and service, describing them as lifelong values inherited through experience and consistently practised throughout his personal and professional life.
As the conversation progressed, he offered rare insights into the legal profession, explaining that the practice of law extends far beyond courtroom arguments and legal precedents.
Drawing from decades of advocacy before the High Court and the Supreme Court, he emphasised that every legal decision carries profound human consequences and demands unwavering ethical clarity, responsibility and compassion.
The discussion also ventured beyond law into lighter moments centred around cricket, Gujarati culture, food and everyday experiences, revealing a warm and relatable side of one of India’s most distinguished legal minds and creating an atmosphere of genuine connection with the students.
The programme became increasingly interactive as students actively participated, posing thoughtful questions that transformed the session into a vibrant exchange where youthful curiosity met decades of professional wisdom.
Through personal anecdotes and lesser-known experiences from his journey, Nanavati offered invaluable perspectives on perseverance, leadership and institution building, illustrating that true success is measured not merely by professional accomplishments but by the values one leaves behind.
Sharing his philosophy on success and fulfilment, he urged students to embrace discipline, ethics, continuous learning and humanity as the cornerstones of a meaningful legal career.
His reflections reinforced the idea that the finest lawyers are distinguished not only by their knowledge of statutes and precedents but by their integrity, empathy and unwavering commitment to justice.
For the students, the session marked far more than the beginning of a new academic year—it became an intellectual awakening that underscored the deeper purpose of legal education.
With the launch of “Decoded @ GLS”, GLS University has created a distinctive platform where celebrated leaders, accomplished professionals and distinguished thinkers will engage directly with students, fostering critical thinking, ethical leadership and lifelong learning beyond conventional classrooms.
The inaugural edition concluded with an enduring message: law is not merely a profession to be mastered—it is a character to be lived.
