CHENNAI, JULY 5

In a significant outreach initiative aimed at inspiring the next generation of military leaders, the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, on Saturday transformed the OTA–Nanganallur Road Metro Station into a window showcasing the rich legacy, traditions and career opportunities of the Indian Army.

Lt Gen Michael AJ Fernandez, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Commandant of OTA Chennai, formally dedicated a series of vibrant publicity displays highlighting the Academy’s distinguished history, officer training excellence and multiple entry pathways into one of India’s premier military institutions.

Installed at one of Chennai’s busy Metro stations, the displays are designed to engage thousands of daily commuters while encouraging talented young men and women to consider a career in the Indian Army through the prestigious Officers Training Academy.

The dedication ceremony was attended by Maj Gen S Murugesan, VSM, Deputy Commandant, OTA Chennai; Maj Gen RM Srinivas, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area, Indian Army; Archunan, Director (Projects), Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL); Krishnamoorthy, Director (Finance), CMRL; along with senior officers from OTA Chennai and local military units.

Speaking at the event, Lt Gen Michael AJ Fernandez said OTA Chennai has a proud legacy of producing military leaders who serve the nation with honour and distinction.

“The displays are intended to reach out to the travelling public, communicate the Academy’s core values of leadership, discipline and courage, and inspire aspiring youth to explore the diverse career opportunities being offered by the Indian Army,” he said.

The Commandant further underlined that OTA’s training philosophy extends well beyond military skills, focusing equally on holistic development, intellectual rigour, physical fitness and character formation, which together shape officers capable of leading troops under the most demanding circumstances.

Strategically positioned inside the Metro station, the colourful installations trace the Academy’s illustrious journey while providing clear information on the various entry schemes available for aspiring officer cadets. The initiative seeks to bridge the information gap for students and young professionals who may be considering the Armed Forces as a career.

With thousands of commuters passing through the station every day, the initiative is expected to significantly enhance awareness about OTA Chennai and reinforce the Indian Army’s efforts to attract motivated, capable and service-oriented youth into the officer cadre.

The public outreach campaign reflects the Army’s continuing commitment to engaging with society beyond military establishments and showcasing the values of leadership, discipline, courage and selfless service that define an officer’s life.

Officials said the publicity initiative is intended not only to increase awareness about OTA Chennai but also to motivate potential defence aspirants by presenting the Academy’s unique training ethos and the various pathways available for joining the Indian Army as commissioned officers.
