NEW DELHI, JULY 13

Marking a significant contribution to the documentation of India’s democratic evolution, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Monday unveiled the landmark reference volume, 75 Years of Indian Democracy: The Indian Election Story in Facts & Figures (1950–2025), and simultaneously released the inaugural issues of two peer-reviewed research journals dedicated to electoral and socio-economic studies.

The publications, brought out by Indiastat Publications, seek to strengthen evidence-based research, informed policymaking and scholarly engagement by creating an authoritative repository of India’s electoral and developmental journey.

The book presents one of the most comprehensive factual chronicles of India’s democratic history, tracing the constitutional, institutional and political evolution of the Republic over seven and a half decades. It provides a year-wise record of elections to the offices of the President, Vice-President, Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies from 1950 to 2025, supported by statistical tables, timelines, charts and tenure records.

To ensure contemporary relevance, the publication also carries a special Addendum documenting major electoral and political developments between January and June 2026, making it an up-to-date reference work for researchers and policymakers.

Harivansh also released the inaugural editions of the Indian Journal of Electoral Studies (IJES) and the Indian Journal of Socio-Economic Studies (IJSES), two quarterly peer-reviewed journals designed to promote high-quality academic research.

While the Indian Journal of Electoral Studies will focus on electoral systems, democratic institutions, election administration, political participation, voting behaviour, electoral reforms and comparative electoral research, the Indian Journal of Socio-Economic Studies will provide a platform for evidence-based scholarship on India’s economy, governance, public policy, society and sustainable development.

Together, the book and the journals are expected to serve as valuable reference resources for Members of Parliament, policymakers, election administrators, researchers, academicians, students, journalists and informed citizens, helping strengthen democratic understanding through authentic data and rigorous analysis.

Speaking on the occasion, Harivansh appreciated initiatives that promote serious documentation and evidence-based scholarship.

“Comprehensive works documenting India’s democratic evolution serve as valuable reference resources for researchers, policymakers and future generations.”

He observed that the publication brings together more than seven decades of electoral data in a single volume, preserving an important part of India’s democratic heritage while facilitating informed research and public understanding.

Dr R. K. Thukral, Director, Indiastat Publications, and Editor of the book and both journals, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to making authentic electoral and socio-economic data readily accessible to the research community, policymakers, academic institutions and the wider public.

“The initiative reflects Indiastat Publications’ commitment to making authentic electoral and socio-economic data and research readily accessible to the research community, policymakers, academic institutions and the wider public.”

He also expressed gratitude to Harivansh for releasing the publications and encouraging scholarly initiatives that contribute to a deeper understanding of India’s democracy and development.
