In a world where talent is rapidly becoming the most valuable global currency, Gujarat and Ghana have taken a significant step towards building a future-ready workforce by transforming shared aspirations into strategic action. Marking World Youth Skills Day, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) hosted the ‘Ghana-Gujarat Dialogue on Skill Opportunities’, bringing together policymakers, diplomats, industry leaders and academicians to chart a collaborative roadmap for youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and sustainable economic growth.

The event witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between EDII and the Government of Ghana to jointly undertake capacity-building and skill development programmes for young people in both countries, signalling a new chapter in India-Ghana cooperation.

The dialogue was attended by Kunvarjibhai Bavaliya, Gujarat Minister for Labour, Skill Development and Employment, Kwasi Agyemang Gyan-Tutu, Minister for Investment and Tourism, Republic of Ghana, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to India, Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, and Nikhil Methiya, CEO, Dronelab.

Organised in collaboration with Savishkar, the event focused on strengthening workforce readiness, promoting entrepreneurship and exploring opportunities for institutional collaboration between Gujarat and Ghana in an increasingly interconnected global economy.

Addressing the gathering, Kunvarjibhai Bavaliya highlighted Gujarat’s commitment to integrating skill development with employment generation and entrepreneurship.

“We are consistently working to build a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem by integrating skill development, employment generation and strong industry collaboration, while also focusing on technology-driven training and outcome-oriented initiatives. As economies become increasingly interconnected, international collaborations have become important platforms for exchanging knowledge, sharing best practices and developing innovative approaches to address emerging trends. This dialogue will strengthen the partnership between Gujarat and Ghana while opening new avenues for collaboration in skill development, entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth. I am confident such initiatives will help us realise the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat 2047.”

Kwasi Agyemang Gyan-Tutu, Minister for Investment and Tourism, Republic of Ghana, described the dialogue as the beginning of a long-term strategic partnership.

“It is truly encouraging to see Ghana and Gujarat come together to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Skill development and entrepreneurship are key drivers of economic transformation, and I am confident this dialogue will lay a strong foundation for long-term collaboration between Ghana and India, fostering partnerships that promote entrepreneurship, innovation and inclusive growth.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to India, underlined the importance of investing in young people.

“Ghana values its longstanding partnership with India, and we see immense potential in expanding collaboration in skills, entrepreneurship and youth development. This dialogue reflects our shared commitment to creating opportunities for young people through knowledge exchange, institutional partnerships and collaborative learning. We look forward to translating these discussions into meaningful initiatives that benefit the youth of both Ghana and India.”

Highlighting EDII’s longstanding engagement with Ghana, Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, said the institute had already worked extensively with government officials, trainers and entrepreneurs from the African nation through multiple capacity-building initiatives.

“EDII has had the privilege of working closely with Ghana through various capacity-building initiatives involving government officials, trainers and entrepreneurs over the years. The Ghana-Gujarat Dialogue serves as an important platform to deepen institutional partnerships, facilitate knowledge exchange and explore collaborative initiatives that advance entrepreneurship and skill development. We believe this dialogue will pave the way for impactful programmes that empower youth and strengthen entrepreneurial ecosystems in both countries.”

The newly signed MoU is expected to facilitate collaborative training programmes, entrepreneurship development initiatives, institutional exchanges and skill enhancement projects that will benefit aspiring entrepreneurs and young professionals from India and Ghana alike.

As nations increasingly recognise that economic competitiveness depends on the quality of human capital, the Gujarat-Ghana partnership reflects a shared vision of equipping youth with the skills, innovation mindset and entrepreneurial capabilities needed to thrive in the global economy.
