JITO Chennai Chapter appears to have answered that question through an education-focused initiative that turns recognition into opportunity and scholarships into a launchpad for the next generation.

The JITO Chennai Chapter Foundation hosted the ‘Gyan Ratna Samman’ (Knowledge Gem Honor) ceremony at Bhavan School Auditorium on Sunday, celebrating Jain students who have excelled across professional and academic fields while extending financial support to deserving learners.
The initiative combines two powerful ideas—honour achievement and remove financial barriers—with scholarships worth ₹25 lakh being announced for deserving students and a wide spectrum of academic achievers being recognised.
More than a felicitation, the initiative carries a message that other communities, institutions and philanthropic organisations could emulate: when education becomes the centre of social investment, every scholarship can become an investment in a stronger society.
From merit to mobility: Education as the great equaliser
The ceremony brought together students, parents, community leaders, donors and volunteers in a celebration of academic excellence and perseverance.
Among those honoured were five MBBS graduates, including specialists; around 52 Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants and Company Secretaries; 50 students scoring above 95% in Class 12; and 45 students who secured distinction in Class 10.
The recognition spanned the academic journey—from school excellence to professional achievement—sending a strong signal that sustained effort deserves both applause and encouragement.
Scholarship Convener Ajay Nahar, presenting the initiative’s report, highlighted JITO’s commitment to education and empowerment through scholarship support.
The programme’s larger significance lies in its multiplier effect. A student who receives timely educational support does not merely gain financial assistance; he or she gains the confidence to pursue higher goals without allowing economic constraints to dictate the limits of ambition.
‘Students are the future of our nation’
In his address, JITO Chennai Chairman Rajesh Chandan underlined the importance of focus, values and continuous learning in preparing the leaders of tomorrow.
“Students are the future not only of our community but also of our nation,” he said.
Convener Ajay Nahar urged the students to become socially responsible and globally competent citizens, describing this as the very objective behind honouring the “gems of knowledge.”
Keynote speaker Subhash Chand Ranka sought to inspire the youth with a forward-looking vision, while guest Ramesh Darda stressed the unwavering dedication required to achieve success in any field.
Chief Secretary Akash Jain urged students to dream big while remaining anchored in discipline, commitment and ethics, a message that resonated strongly with the gathering.
A scholarship today, a societal dividend tomorrow
The JITO initiative demonstrates how community philanthropy can move beyond one-time assistance towards structured educational empowerment.
Scholarships can help deserving students pursue professional courses, reduce the financial pressure on families and widen access to opportunities that might otherwise remain out of reach. Equally important, public recognition can create a culture where academic excellence is celebrated as a community value.
The initiative therefore offers a thought-provoking template for others: identify talent, support merit, honour achievement—and create a cycle in which beneficiaries themselves eventually become contributors.
In a country seeking to transform its demographic strength into a knowledge economy, such community-led interventions can complement institutional efforts by reaching students directly and reinforcing the social value of education.
‘Be indian, buy Iindian’: From education to responsible citizenship
The event also carried a wider message of social and national responsibility.
Rajesh Chandan led the gathering in taking a pledge to “Be Indian, Buy Indian,” linking educational empowerment with economic self-reliance and patriotic citizenship.
The event also recognised the collective contribution behind the initiative. Akash Jain proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging donors, contributors and volunteers, while Treasurer Vinod Kothari and Co-convener Vivek Bomb handled the event organisation. Chinki Jain served as anchor.
Special appreciation was extended to the Youth Wing led by Sudarshan Bohra, the Ladies’ Wing led by Pinky Jain, Sharmila Jain, Heenal Jain and Vandana Jain, and the wider JITO team for their support.
The presence of community leaders including Subhash Chand Ranka, Ramesh Darda, Prakash Sethia, Pravin Tatia, Shantilal Jain, Rajesh Bhandari, Vivek Bomb, Shreyas Kothari, Kunal Jain, Rajesh Shah, Ankit Jain, Shailesh Bhandari, Divesh Tated and Pankaj Kankaria added to the significance of the occasion.
The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem, leaving students and parents with a sense of pride—and a larger question for society: if every community invested systematically in its brightest young minds, how much faster could India’s knowledge and human-capital story advance?
JITO Chennai’s answer is already taking shape: celebrate merit, fund aspiration and let education become a tradition worth passing forward.
