AHMEDABAD, AUG 3

Gujarat’s chemical heartland is preparing for another industrial leap—with specialty chemicals, cleaner fuels and strategic connectivity converging in a ₹150-crore greenfield bet. Shivtek Spechemi Industries Ltd, flagship company of Shiva Group of Industries, is investing over ₹150 crore in a new integrated manufacturing complex at Pungam in Ankleshwar, seeking to build not merely another chemical plant but a future-ready hub where specialty chemicals meet next-generation clean-fuel technologies.

The company has acquired approximately 21 acres of industrial land for the project, which will be developed in two phases and ultimately create 1.44 lakh tonnes per annum (MTPA) of additional capacity.

The first phase is targeted for commissioning by March 2027, giving the project a relatively tight execution timeline and adding fresh manufacturing muscle to Gujarat’s already formidable chemical and petrochemical ecosystem.

From Ankleshwar to the world: A strategic industrial launchpad

The Pungam project strengthens Shivtek’s existing multi-hub manufacturing footprint spanning Kurnool in the South, Rajpura in the North and Dahej in the West.

Its location is central to the company’s expansion strategy. Positioned along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (NE-4) and in proximity to Hazira Port, the site offers access to major freight corridors, raw-material sources and international maritime routes.

Connectivity is expected to be further strengthened by the upcoming Bhadbhut Barrage Project, which will facilitate operational integration between the new Pungam complex and Shivtek’s primary manufacturing facility at Dahej.

For a specialty-chemicals manufacturer, that connectivity could translate into an important competitive advantage—faster movement of feedstock, stronger supply-chain resilience and easier access to domestic and global markets.

84,000 MTPA first phase; 60,000 MTPA more in phase 2

The first phase will feature manufacturing of Pharma Grade Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) alongside processing and manufacturing facilities for specialty feedstock and specialty petrochemicals, with planned capacity of 84,000 MTPA.

Phase 2 will add another 60,000 MTPA, taking the complex’s aggregate capacity to 1.44 lakh MTPA.

The expanded product basket will include a range of petrochemical intermediates—from low boilers to heavy boilers, widening Shivtek’s ability to serve diverse industrial customers.

The complex will house advanced manufacturing units, utilities, quality-control laboratories, warehousing and storage infrastructure and other supporting facilities, with the company stating that the project will be developed in line with international Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) benchmarks.

Chemicals today, cleaner shipping tomorrow

The project’s most trailblazing component lies beyond conventional specialty chemicals.

Phase 2 will establish pilot-scale facilities for Methanol-to-Gas and Hydrogen Fuel technologies, with an eye on the shipping industry’s accelerating search for cleaner energy alternatives.

The move places Shivtek at the intersection of two major industrial trends: India’s expanding specialty-chemicals demand and the global maritime sector’s decarbonisation drive.

Upon commercialisation, the complex is expected to supply high-value feedstock and intermediates to sectors including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, personal care, industrial coatings, water treatment, textiles and other specialty-chemical applications.

The project is also expected to generate direct and indirect employment during both construction and operational phases, potentially creating a wider economic ripple effect around Ankleshwar’s industrial ecosystem.

‘A step towards Viksit Bharat @2047’

Amitt Nenwani, Managing Director, Shivtek Spechemi Industries Ltd, described the acquisition as a strategic milestone as well as a contribution to India’s long-term development ambitions.

“This milestone is also a step towards supporting the Government of India’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat, and we look forward to showcasing this project at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2027,” he said.

Highlighting the location advantage, Nenwani added: “Located on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and proximity to Hazira port and our Dahej facility, gives us the connectivity and infrastructure we need to scale efficiently.”

He said the facility would expand Shivtek’s specialty-chemicals portfolio while opening a new technological frontier.

“This new facility will not only expand our specialty chemicals portfolio but also allow us to pilot next-generation Methanol-to-Gas and Hydrogen Fuel technologies for the shipping industry, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and cleaner energy.”

The company sees the project as a long-term growth platform that can simultaneously enhance product diversification, manufacturing capacity, supply-chain resilience and export potential.

With Phase 1 slated for commissioning by March 2027 and commercial operations expected soon thereafter, Shivtek’s Ankleshwar investment could add another significant chapter to Gujarat’s evolution from a chemical manufacturing powerhouse into a future-ready hub for specialty chemicals and cleaner industrial technologies.

And if the ₹150-crore project delivers on its ambitions, the bigger story may not simply be what Gujarat manufactures next—but how clean, connected and globally competitive that manufacturing can become.
