A passport delay can mean a missed flight, a postponed job opportunity or a last-minute travel scramble. For applicants needing faster processing, Chennai’s Regional Passport Office has opened a special window of opportunity. The RPO, Chennai, will conduct a Special Tatkaal Passport Drive on Saturday, August 8, 2026, releasing 1,400 appointment slots across four Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) in the region.
The initiative is aimed at meeting the growing demand for Tatkaal passport services and, importantly, cutting appointment waiting periods for applicants who need expedited passport-related services.

The special drive will cover PSK Saligramam, PSK Aminjikarai, PSK Tambaram and PSK Puducherry.
1,400 slots up for grabs on August 8
The three Chennai-area centres—Saligramam, Aminjikarai and Tambaram—will each release 400 Tatkaal appointments, accounting for 1,200 slots.
Another 200 appointments will be made available at PSK Puducherry, taking the total number of special Tatkaal slots to 1,400.
The one-day initiative is designed to provide applicants with greater access to expedited passport services while easing the pressure created by longer appointment waiting periods.
Four centres to handle special tatkaal drive
Applicants seeking to take advantage of the special arrangement can look to the following centres:
- PSK Saligramam — 400 Tatkaal appointments
- PSK Aminjikarai — 400 appointments
- PSK Tambaram — 400 appointments
- PSK Puducherry — 200 appointments
The RPO has urged members of the public to make use of the special provision and complete their applications online promptly, as appointment availability is limited.

The special drive is particularly relevant to applicants facing urgent travel requirements or seeking to reduce the waiting period normally associated with Tatkaal appointments.
The RPO’s message to applicants is simple: do not wait until the last minute.
