In an inspiring celebration of motherhood, newborn health and collective social responsibility, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) has etched its name into the Asia Book of Records by mobilising 6,530 participants in what has become the largest digital breastfeeding awareness pledge organised by an educational institution in Asia. More than a record, the remarkable feat sends a powerful message that every pledge to promote breastfeeding is a promise to nurture healthier mothers, stronger children and a brighter future.

  • Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research creates Asia Book of Records with the largest digital breastfeeding awareness pledge by an educational institution
  • Record-breaking participation of 6,530 faculty, doctors, nurses, students and staff reinforces the message that breastfeeding is every child’s first vaccine and every mother’s priceless gift
  • Multi-disciplinary initiative champions maternal and child health, highlighting the power of collective action in building a healthier future
  • Asia Book of Records Adjudicator Vivek Nair presents the record certificate, recognising SRIHER’s extraordinary public health awareness campaign

The landmark initiative, titled “Maximum Participants Taking a Digital Breastfeeding Awareness Pledge Organised by an Educational Institution,” was conceived to reinforce the importance of breastfeeding while strengthening the institution’s unwavering commitment towards protecting, promoting and supporting optimal breastfeeding practices.

The campaign also underscored the significance of multidisciplinary collaboration in advancing maternal and child healthcare, bringing together healthcare professionals, academicians, students and support staff under a common public health mission.

A remarkable 6,530 participants, including faculty members, doctors, nurses, healthcare professionals, students and staff from diverse disciplines, took the breastfeeding awareness pledge through SRIHER’s dedicated digital portal, demonstrating overwhelming enthusiasm and institutional unity.

The unprecedented participation enabled SRIHER to create a new Asia Book of Records, a milestone certified by Vivek Nair, Adjudicator, Asia Book of Records, who formally presented the prestigious record certificate to the institution.

The record-setting campaign was jointly organised by the Departments of Paediatrics, Neonatology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatric Nursing, Clinical Nutrition, Lactation, Nursing and Occupational Therapy, in collaboration with the SRH Lactation Team, SRH Nursing Team and Lactation Research Team, reflecting a truly integrated healthcare approach.

The programme witnessed the participation of Dr. P. Surendran, Medical Superintendent; Dr. K.S. Rajeswari, Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology; Dr. Prakash, Professor, Department of Neonatology; Dr. Saji James, Head, Department of Paediatrics; Dr. P. Anitha, Associate Professor, Department of Paediatrics; Dr. S.J. Nalini, Principal, Faculty of Nursing; Dr. P. Raghuram, Head, Department of Occupational Therapy; Nursing Superintendents, faculty members from various departments and students, making the initiative a true reflection of SRIHER’s multidisciplinary excellence.

Beyond creating a continental record, the initiative serves as a timely reminder of the unmatched health benefits of breastfeeding, recognised globally as the ideal source of infant nutrition. Breastfeeding not only provides complete nourishment and immunity to newborns but also significantly contributes to maternal health, strengthens emotional bonding and reduces the risk of several chronic diseases in both mother and child.

By transforming a health awareness campaign into a record-breaking public movement, SRIHER has demonstrated that meaningful healthcare begins not merely in hospitals, but in informed communities united by compassion, science and collective commitment.
