Ahmedabad’s three-wheeler market is getting a fresh dose of horsepower—and TVS Motor Company is stepping harder on the accelerator. The company on Wednesday inaugurated its third authorised three-wheeler dealership in Ahmedabad, even as it flagged a potentially sharper cost challenge for electric mobility, with battery, component and logistics prices under pressure from geopolitical disruptions.

The new M/s Tirusai Autolink, located on Vishwakarma College Road, Motera, takes TVS Motor’s commercial-mobility retail network in Ahmedabad to three outlets and is designed to provide customers access to its passenger and cargo three-wheeler portfolio.

The inauguration was attended by Rajat Gupta, Business Head–Commercial Mobility Business, TVS Motor Company, and Piyush Kumar Rameshbhai Patel, Dealer Partner, Tirusai Autolink, along with dealership staff.

Five product families, one mobility play

TVS Motor’s current three-wheeler portfolio comprises five core model families: TVS King Deluxe, TVS King Duramax Plus, TVS King EV Max, TVS King Kargo and TVS King Kargo HD EV, with powertrain and cargo variants expanding the range further. The company’s official product catalogue also lists King Kargo CNG variants.

The passenger mobility line-up includes the King Deluxe, King Duramax Plus and King EV Max, while the cargo side is anchored by the King Kargo and King Kargo HD EV. This gives TVS a multi-fuel commercial mobility proposition spanning CNG, petrol, LPG and electric applications.

The company says its three-wheeler business caters to both passenger and cargo mobility and has an annual production capacity of more than 2.40 lakh three-wheelers, with the TVS King having crossed one million customers globally.

Gujarat: CNG still holds the steering wheel

Gupta said TVS currently commands about 25% of the electric three-wheeler segment, but acknowledged that EV adoption in Gujarat has been relatively slow because of the widespread availability of CNG.

He attributed the slower transition also to customer awareness and concerns over charging infrastructure, highlighting the different pace at which electrification is progressing across India’s commercial mobility markets.

This gives Gujarat a distinctive competitive landscape: while electric three-wheelers are gaining traction nationally, the established CNG ecosystem continues to remain a powerful consideration for commercial operators in the State.

TVS’s strategy, therefore, is not an all-electric bet but a multi-powertrain approach, allowing customers to choose according to operating economics, route requirements and infrastructure availability.

“Price fluctuation is very high”

The sharper challenge, however, could come from costs.

Gupta warned that electric vehicle prices could rise by another 10-12% in the fourth quarter if disruption around the Strait of Hormuz persists and pushes up raw-material and logistics costs.

“The price fluctuation is very high. So, battery prices have already risen. If the Strait of Hormuz does not open, raw materials and logistics cost will increase, and maybe in the fourth quarter you may see OESs going for a 10-12 percent price hike,” said Gupta.

He said EV prices had already been increased during the year as material costs rose by 10-12%, while the Iran crisis had added another layer of pressure.

“Electric components and batteries are the most affected due to the Iran crisis,” said Gupta.

For commercial operators, where the acquisition price and running economics directly influence purchasing decisions, any further increase in EV prices could become a significant factor in the pace of electrification.

The company’s King EV Max, for instance, uses a 9.2 kWh battery and offers connected features, including navigation, remote charging status and fleet-management functions, according to TVS.

“Ahmedabad is an important market”

Speaking at the inauguration, Rajat Gupta, Business Head–Commercial Mobility Business, TVS Motor Company, said: “With 40 percent market share, Ahmedabad is an important market for TVS Motor Company, and the inauguration of M/s Tirusai Autolink further strengthens our commitment to serving customers across the city. With this being our third dealership in Ahmedabad, we are expanding accessibility to our comprehensive commercial mobility portfolio while ensuring a superior sales and service experience. We are delighted to partner with M/s Tirusai Autolink and look forward to delivering reliable, innovative and customer-centric mobility solutions to customers in the region.”

TVS Motor now has 50 dealership touchpoints and 50 service touchpoints across Gujarat, reinforcing its effort to bring commercial vehicles, maintenance support and after-sales services closer to operators across the State.

From King Deluxe to King EV Max

The King Deluxe continues to serve the conventional passenger segment, while the King Duramax Plus brings a more powerful 225cc liquid-cooled platform. The electric transition is represented by the King EV Max, while cargo customers have the King Kargo and electric King Kargo HD EV.

The portfolio approach could prove particularly relevant in Gujarat, where CNG remains deeply established while EV adoption is gradually building.

The inauguration of Tirusai Autolink thus comes at a strategically important moment for TVS: expand the physical network, widen customer choice and prepare for an electric transition without abandoning the powertrains that currently dominate commercial mobility.

With Ahmedabad emerging as a key commercial and logistics hub, TVS is seeking to make its three-wheelers not merely vehicles on the road, but business tools within the city’s fast-evolving last-mile mobility ecosystem.
