CHENNAI, AUG 13
Tamil Nadu’s ‘Vetri’ story has acquired a formidable business dimension: in just 100 days of the new government, the State has crossed the ₹1-lakh-crore mark in fresh investment commitments, turning Thursday’s ‘Vetri Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2026’ into a powerful statement of industrial ambition, global confidence and job creation.
With Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the helm, Tamil Nadu secured 97 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) involving ₹67,452 crore of proposed investment and 1,06,998 employment opportunities at the investors’ conclave held in Chennai on Thursday.
- 97 fresh MoUs worth ₹67,452 crore signed at ‘Vetri Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave’ in Chennai
- ₹1,02,514 crore investment commitments secured in just 100 days, promising 1.21 lakh jobs
- Aerospace, defence, semiconductors, EVs, electronics and renewables emerge as new growth engines
- Avid Group, JK Tyre, Daimler, YKK, Skyroot Aerospace, Agnikul, Supermicro and BITZER among major investors
- ₹4,476 crore worth of projects launched with 5,074 jobs; another ₹2,676 crore projects inaugurated
- New industrial infrastructure, worker hostels, childcare, medical and skill facilities strengthen investment ecosystem
More significantly, the fresh commitments, combined with MoUs signed ahead of the conclave, have taken the State’s investment commitments during the government’s first 100 days to ₹1,02,514 crore, with 1,21,788 jobs expected to be generated.
The scale and spread of the commitments underline the government’s pitch to make Tamil Nadu a preferred destination for the next generation of manufacturing and technology investments—from aerospace and defence to semiconductors, electronics, electric mobility, deep technology and renewable energy.
‘Vetri’ becomes an investment signal
The ‘Vetri Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2026’, organised by the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, brought together a formidable mix of domestic and international investors.
Among the headline commitments are Avid Group’s ₹7,000-crore investment, JK Tyre’s ₹5,143-crore expansion, Daimler’s ₹4,000-crore investment, YKK’s ₹1,651-crore project, JK Tyre and other major manufacturing expansions, besides investments by Supermicro, Skyroot Aerospace, Agnikul Cosmos, UltraViolet and BITZER.
The conclave also featured major global names, including Supermicro Computer of the US and Saint-Gobain of France, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s appeal as an international manufacturing and technology hub.
Space, EVs and chips take centre stage
The investment pipeline carries a distinct new-age technology signature.
Skyroot Aerospace will invest ₹250 crore in Thoothukudi to establish what the State describes as India’s first private orbital launch-vehicle manufacturing facility, covering production, storage, integration and testing, with 500 jobs.
Agnikul Cosmos will invest ₹400 crore in Thoothukudi to establish a facility for manufacturing and integrating reusable liquid-propulsion launch vehicles, generating around 1,500 jobs.
In Krishnagiri, UltraViolet will invest ₹779 crore in an OEM facility for electric two-wheelers, with 4,000 jobs envisaged.
US-based Supermicro, ranked among the Fortune 500 companies, will invest ₹477 crore in Chennai in a server manufacturing and integration centre, creating 150 jobs.
Japan’s YKK, the world’s largest zipper and fastening-products manufacturer, will invest ₹1,651 crore in Tiruvallur and create 4,316 jobs.
Global capital, local jobs
Australia-based Avid Group has proposed investments of ₹7,000 crore over the next five years across urban infrastructure and tourism, healthcare and mining-equipment manufacturing, among other sectors, with 12,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities in Tiruvallur and Thoothukudi.
Germany’s BITZER, a global HVAC compressor manufacturer, will establish its first HVAC compressor manufacturing facility in India at Kancheepuram with an investment of around ₹300 crore.
Daimler plans to invest ₹4,000 crore to expand its 400-acre manufacturing and R&D facility at Oragadam for commercial-vehicle design, research and development and manufacturing, with 400 jobs.
JK Tyre will expand its tyre manufacturing project in Kancheepuram with an investment of ₹5,143 crore, expected to create 3,510 jobs.
The projects are spread across districts including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Dindigul, Cuddalore, Chennai, Thoothukudi, Sivaganga, Krishnagiri, Chengalpattu, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Ranipet, Vellore, Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram, Erode, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruppur, Pudukkottai, Tiruchirappalli and Nagapattinam—taking industrialisation beyond the traditional Chennai-centric corridor.
₹4,476 crore projects get the green signal
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stones for eight projects involving ₹4,476 crore investment and 5,074 jobs.
These include projects by Genesis, Sree Cements, TABP Snacks, Horst Engineering, Podaran Foods, NDR Infrastructure, L&T and Inzi Controls.
Another five projects involving ₹2,676 crore investment and 1,550 jobs were inaugurated. These include Vikram Solar’s ₹1,300-crore renewable-energy project in Tirunelveli, Rakwul’s ₹510-crore manufacturing project in Tiruvannamalai, Chennai SSSS Equipments, Velmurugan Heavy Engineering and Michelin’s ₹686-crore automotive project.
From factories to a worker-friendly ecosystem
The investment push is being accompanied by a major infrastructure drive.
The Chief Minister inaugurated ₹777.74 crore worth of completed projects, including a ₹350-crore tissue-paper manufacturing facility of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers at Mondipatti in Tiruchi and a ₹250-crore world-class aerospace complex at TIDCO’s Vallam Vadagal industrial park in Kancheepuram.
The aerospace complex, spread across 3.04 lakh sq ft and eight floors, will support engineering design, avionics manufacturing and maintenance, advanced prototyping and defence-technology development.
SIPCOT also opened new administrative, plug-and-play, food-court, childcare, medical, customs and security facilities, while worker accommodation projects were inaugurated in Thoothukudi, Cheyyar and Gangaikondan.
The focus on childcare, medical facilities, skill development and women’s hostels gives the investment story a distinctly human dimension—aiming to make industrial corridors not merely places of production but more complete ecosystems for workers and their families.
Skills, AI and semiconductor ambitions
Tamil Nadu has also signed institutional MoUs with organisations from Kazakhstan, New Zealand and Russia covering trade, commerce, bilateral investment, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, semiconductor skilling and technology exchange.
A planned WOWsemi Semiconductor Skilling Academy in Coimbatore will involve ₹75 crore investment over two years, with a target of training more than 75,000 people over five years and certifying at least 15,000.
TIDCO and Bosch Global Software Technologies are also set to establish a centre focused on cybersecurity, AI and advanced technologies, with the potential to support 10,000 students and technology professionals, while assisting more than 500 startups and MSMEs.
Russia’s Sberbank has entered into an MoU with the Tamil Nadu Government covering education, healthcare, urban development and technology exchange, opening another channel for economic cooperation.
A ‘Vetri’ verdict written in investment and jobs
The conclave also saw the distribution of appointment orders to 20 selected candidates for positions across nine industrial companies, including Schaeffler, Pitter, ZF, HD Supply, Green Signal, HL Mando, Daimler, Velmurugan Heavy Engineering and Jeevanix.
For Tamil Nadu, therefore, the first 100 days of the new government have been framed around a simple but potent economic proposition: investment must translate into jobs, technology, skills and industrial capacity.
And Thursday’s ‘Vetri’ conclave has put a ₹1,02,514-crore number behind that ambition.
