When the Tricolour rose against the morning sky and the National Anthem echoed across the Academic Courtyard, Delhi Public School-Bopal became a living canvas of India’s freedom, sacrifice and youthful aspirations. The school’s 80th Independence Day celebration on August 15, 2026, blended patriotic fervour with student talent, discipline and a spirited message of responsibility towards the nation.

The celebration opened with a traditional welcome, followed by hoisting of the National Flag and the National Anthem, setting the tone for a ceremony that placed students firmly at its heart.

The Parade Captain invited Special Guests Colonel Prashant Sankpal, Commanding Officer, Rapid Provost Unit (Military Police), Ahmedabad, and Hardik Thakor, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Ahmedabad, to inspect the parade. They joined Principal Sabina Sawhney for the flag-hoisting ceremony.

The immaculate march past by students emerged as one of the highlights, showcasing discipline, synchronisation, confidence and reverence for the national flag.

A lesson in gratitude and nation-building

Addressing the gathering, Principal Sabina Sawhney reminded students to remain grateful to the freedom fighters and soldiers whose sacrifices secured India’s freedom, as well as to their parents and teachers who continue to shape their lives.

She urged students to prioritise health and fitness, stressing their importance in preparing the younger generation to serve the nation with strength and responsibility.

Her message added a deeper dimension to the celebrations, connecting the freedom secured by earlier generations with the responsibilities awaiting today’s students.

‘Non-Stop India’ becomes patriotic showstopper

The cultural programme opened on a melodious note with the patriotic song ‘Bhavatu Bharatam’, which quickly had the audience humming along.

This was followed by a Hindi article, ‘Swatantrata Divas’, offering an informative and thought-provoking reflection on Independence Day.

The grand finale of the cultural segment was the much-awaited ‘Non-Stop India’, a mesmerising dance presentation by the school’s talented students.

With vibrant colours, energetic movements and an array of synchronised formations, the young performers held the audience spellbound. Their collective performance transformed the stage into a celebration of India’s diversity, dynamism and national spirit.

More than a dance presentation, ‘Non-Stop India’ became a vivid expression of teamwork, youthful confidence and love for the country.

‘Believe in yourself and work hard’

In his motivating address, Colonel Prashant Sankpal encouraged students to believe in themselves and pursue their goals with determination and hard work.

Hardik Thakor highlighted another simple but powerful responsibility towards the nation and the environment — urging every student to plant at least one tree and nurture it.

Together, the messages expanded the meaning of patriotism beyond ceremonies, linking it with personal discipline, physical well-being, environmental responsibility and service to society.

Sweet finale to a spirited celebration

The Head Boy and Head Girl delivered the Vote of Thanks, bringing the formal proceedings to a close.

Students and teachers then proceeded to their respective classrooms, where sweets were served, providing an appropriately sweet ending to a celebration filled with patriotic pride.

The 80th Independence Day programme served as a reminder that the finest tribute to India’s freedom fighters is not merely remembering their sacrifices but building the healthy, sustainable and responsible India they dreamed of.
