CHENNAI, SEPT 15

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s investment outreach in London received a major boost with Wilson Power Solutions signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to invest ₹300 crore in Thiruvallur district and create 400 new jobs, signalling another significant step in the State’s drive to expand its electrical and power-equipment manufacturing ecosystem.

The MoU was signed in London on September 14 in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, underlining the State government’s efforts to convert international investment outreach into concrete manufacturing commitments.

  • UK-based power-solutions major to deepen Tamil Nadu manufacturing footprint
  • Thiruvallur set to gain from ₹300-crore industrial investment and 400 direct employment opportunities
  • Global investment outreach puts Tamil Nadu’s power-equipment ecosystem in the spotlight
  • London agreement strengthens State’s pitch as a high-value manufacturing destination

Wilson Power Solutions Group Technical Director Hari Krishna Malepati and Group Finance Director Dennis Sorby signed the agreement on behalf of the company, while Deepak Jacob, IAS, Managing Director, Guidance, Tamil Nadu, signed on behalf of the State government.

The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, Kumaran Periasamy, IFS, India’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, company representatives and senior government officials.

A power-packed investment

The ₹300-crore commitment assumes significance as demand for electrical and power equipment accelerates on the back of renewable-energy expansion, industrialisation, electrification and the modernisation of transmission and distribution networks.

Wilson Power Solutions is an independent transformer and power-distribution equipment manufacturer with a product portfolio covering power transformers, distribution transformers, unit substations, special transformers, compact substations and dry-type transformers.

Its India operations are based in the Orakkadu–Sholavaram area of Thiruvallur district, giving the new investment a strategic fit with the company’s existing manufacturing presence.

Thiruvallur gets a fresh industrial thrust

The proposed investment is expected to create 400 new jobs, while also potentially generating opportunities across the wider industrial ecosystem involving component suppliers, engineering services, logistics, testing, maintenance and technical manpower.

For Thiruvallur, the investment could therefore extend beyond direct employment and contribute to the district’s emergence as an important node in Tamil Nadu’s electrical and engineering manufacturing chain.

Positioning for the energy transition

The timing is particularly significant. India’s accelerating renewable-energy deployment and expanding electricity infrastructure are creating sustained demand for transformers and other specialised power equipment.

Wilson Power Solutions has capabilities across power and distribution transformers and energy-transition applications, including equipment associated with solar, wind and battery-energy-storage systems.

The proposed investment consequently fits neatly into Tamil Nadu’s larger manufacturing ambitions—linking conventional electrical infrastructure with the rapidly emerging clean-energy economy.

London-to-Tamil Nadu investment bridge

The presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay at the signing adds strategic weight to the agreement, as Tamil Nadu seeks to position itself as a preferred destination for global manufacturing and technology investments.

The London engagement also demonstrates how international investor outreach can translate into specific commitments on the ground, with Thiruvallur emerging as the beneficiary of a sizeable industrial expansion.

The ₹300-crore investment and 400 proposed jobs thus represent more than another MoU on paper: they strengthen Tamil Nadu’s pitch to global companies looking for an established manufacturing ecosystem, skilled manpower and access to India’s expanding energy market.

The message from London is unmistakable: Tamil Nadu is not merely seeking investment—it is positioning its industrial districts to power India’s next manufacturing and energy-transition cycle.
