MUMBAI, SEPT 17
What once required design expertise, expensive software or a desktop workstation is increasingly becoming a smartphone task—and a new Jio-Canva partnership is seeking to push that shift deeper into India’s digital mainstream. Eligible Jio users can now unlock up to 12 months of Canva Pro or Canva Pro Lite at no extra cost, bringing AI-powered design, premium templates and visual communication tools to students, creators, professionals, entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Jio and Canva on Thursday announced a strategic partnership aimed at combining Jio’s digital reach with Canva’s visual communication platform and AI-powered creative tools, making professional-quality content creation more accessible across India.
The offer, worth up to ₹4,000, can be claimed through the MyJio app in a few taps, with no additional charge or hidden fees, according to the companies.
Premium creativity, without the premium barrier
At the heart of the partnership is a 12-month Canva offer for eligible Jio users, giving customers access to premium creative tools at no additional cost.
The companies said the initiative is designed to make visual communication easier for a wide range of users—from a student preparing a project in a small town to an entrepreneur creating promotional material for a growing business.
The qualifying plans determine which Canva tier a user receives:
| Eligible Jio plan | Canva benefit |
| ₹399 plan | Canva Pro — 12 months |
| ₹349 plan and eligible 2GB/day plans above ₹349 | Canva Pro Lite — 12 months |
The offer is to be claimed through MyJio → tap the Canva offer → start designing.
The companies said the offer will go live for users recharging with eligible plans across channels from September 16, 2026.
‘Creativity is one of India’s greatest strengths’
Kiran Thomas, President, Reliance Industries Limited, said: “Creativity is one of India’s greatest strengths. Through Canva, we are placing world-class, AI-powered design tools in the hands of millions of Indians – free, and a tap away on MyJio – so every student, creator, entrepreneur and small business can create, learn, grow and earn in a digital-first India, in the language they’re most comfortable with.”
The partnership consequently places AI-enabled design alongside connectivity as part of the broader digital toolkit available to consumers.
Canva sees India as a fast-growing market
Cliff Obrecht, Canva Co-Founder and COO, said: “India is one of Canva’s fastest growing markets, and the momentum we’re seeing here speaks to the creativity and ambition of the local businesses, creators, and educators using our platform to bring their ideas to life. Partnering with Jio marks an exciting new chapter in our journey in India, helping bring the power of Canva to millions more people across the country and empowering anyone to create, communicate, and bring their ideas to life.”
From an idea to a finished design
Canva’s tools allow users to move from an initial idea to a finished visual without requiring formal design training.
The offering includes premium templates, photographs, videos and fonts, along with tools such as background removal, Magic Resize and Magic Eraser. Canva Pro additionally provides the platform’s conversational, chat-to-design AI capability and higher AI usage limits.
For students, this could mean presentations and academic projects; for creators, social posts and digital content; and for entrepreneurs and small businesses, marketing material, brand assets and promotional communications.
The availability of Hindi and multiple Indian languages is another component of the partnership’s stated effort to broaden access to digital creativity.
Pro Lite or Pro: what changes?
According to the product comparison supplied by the companies, Canva Pro Lite provides premium design essentials, including millions of premium templates and media assets, one-tap background removal, three Brand Kits, print-ready CMYK exports, Magic Resize, Magic Eraser, 50GB cloud storage and free-plan-level AI limits.
Canva Pro adds five Brand Kits, Content Planner, conversational Canva AI, higher AI limits and up to 100GB cloud storage, besides the other listed premium features.
The companies noted that the comparison is accurate as of September 15, 2026, and features may change through routine product updates.
The smartphone becomes the creative studio
The larger proposition behind the Jio-Canva alliance is straightforward: reduce the distance between having an idea and turning it into something people can see, share or use.
With smartphones already serving as classrooms, workplaces, storefronts and communication hubs for millions of Indians, the addition of AI-assisted design tools creates another layer of digital capability.
For the next generation of students and creators—and for small businesses looking to communicate without dedicated design teams—the partnership seeks to make professional-looking visual content less a specialised skill and more an everyday digital activity.
