When academic excellence meets compassionate healthcare, a university’s anniversary becomes more than a celebration—it becomes a measure of the lives it has touched. The 41st Founder’s Day and University Day of Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) brought that philosophy into focus, honouring achievers across the institution while unveiling a home-care initiative designed to take specialised healthcare beyond hospital walls.
Held to mark the 91st birth anniversary of Founder Chancellor N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar, the celebrations recognised outstanding students, teachers, nurses, research scholars, sportspersons, NSS and NCC volunteers, alumni and staff, combining academic distinction with service, mentorship and institutional commitment.

Academic excellence shines through 38 gold medals
Among the academic achievers, S. Abhinaya, an MBBS student, emerged as a standout performer by securing four gold medals for meritorious performance.
In all, 38 gold medals were awarded to 28 students, recognising academic excellence across disciplines.
The celebrations also acknowledged employees whose contribution has strengthened the institution over the years. As many as 282 employees were honoured with cash awards in recognition of their service and contribution.
Staff members who completed long years of service were also presented gold medals, placing institutional loyalty and sustained commitment alongside academic achievement.
Service milestones honoured
The institution’s emphasis on professional dedication was reflected in its special awards.
Dr K. Balaji Singh, Dean, SRMC&RI and Professor of General Surgery, and Dr J.D. Roy Santhosham, Professor of Radiology, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for their dedicated service.
Dr Kannan Karthik Kailash, Senior Consultant, Spine & Orthopaedic Surgery, was presented the Mentoring Excellence Award, recognising his contribution to guiding and nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
‘SAHAYA’ takes healthcare home
The celebrations also acquired a distinctly patient-centric dimension with Chancellor V.R. Venkataachalam inaugurating ‘SAHAYA’ – Home Care Services, an initiative designed to extend the expertise and support of a multispecialty hospital into the patient’s home.
SAHAYA seeks to ensure continuity of care beyond hospital discharge through professional, compassionate and patient-centred services.
The initiative brings together a wide spectrum of healthcare support, including doctor consultations, nursing and critical care, physiotherapy, elderly care, chronic disease management, cognitive and mental health care, speech therapy, dietitian services, laboratory sample collection, pharmacy delivery and medical equipment.
Its personalised approach takes into account a patient’s medical condition, recovery requirements, daily routine and family support, with the objective of creating a continuum of care that does not end at the hospital exit.
Celebrating talent, service and institution-building
Chancellor V.R. Venkataachalam, Pro Chancellor R.V. Sengutuvan and Trustee, Sri Ramachandra Educational & Health Trust, Samyuktha Venkataachalam, presented gold medals and awards to outstanding students, teachers, nurses, research scholars, sportspersons, NSS and NCC volunteers and alumni.
The recognition of employees for long service added another dimension to the celebrations, highlighting the contribution of faculty and staff to the institution’s four-decade journey.
The event also paid tribute to the institution’s founder. P.K. Kishore, Senior Manager, Interior Manager, paid rich tributes to Founder Chancellor N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar.
Dr Uma Sekar, Vice Chancellor, SRIHER, welcomed the gathering.
The 41st year celebrations thus brought together three defining strands of the institution’s journey—excellence in education, commitment to healthcare and a culture of service—while SAHAYA extended that commitment into an important new space: the patient’s own home.
