AHMEDABAD, SEPT 19

“Go forth, dream big, and change the world!” — this stirring call from Professor Manoj K. Tiwari, Director of IIM Mumbai, set the tone for IITRAM’s 8th Convocation, urging graduating engineers to step into a rapidly transforming world with purpose, integrity and confidence.

Addressing the Class of 2026 at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Auditorium in Vastral on Saturday, the chief guest reminded students that engineering is no longer merely about entering a profession: it is about helping build, power and safeguard a world being reshaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, autonomous systems, the Internet of Things and data-driven innovation.

The ceremony saw 129 graduates receive their degrees, including 116 B.Tech, one M.Tech and 12 PhD recipients. The graduating cohort included five B.Tech students earning Honours, 15 receiving Minors and one completing a microspecialisation. It also marked the graduation of IITRAM’s first batch of Computer Engineering students.

Engineers at the heart of a transforming world

Professor Tiwari described the present as a defining decade of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in which technologies once considered emerging are already transforming infrastructure, manufacturing, energy systems and software.

A moment of academic recognition: Professor P.K. Jain, Director General, IITRAM, presents a memento to Professor Sudhir K. Jain, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IITRAM, at the institute’s 8th Convocation in Ahmedabad on Saturday — NE Photo.

“As engineers, you are not just entering a profession—you are stepping into the very discipline responsible for building, powering, and safeguarding this new world,” he said.

He urged graduates to recognise that their responsibility extends beyond technological advancement to environmental stewardship.

“Remember, you are not only builders of systems—you are stewards of sustainability,” he said, calling for solutions that conserve energy, reduce waste and embrace renewable and circular resources.

From clean-energy grids and sustainable infrastructure to AI-enabled systems that reduce carbon footprints, he said, engineering innovation must help ensure that progress and environmental harmony go hand in hand.

Professor Tiwari expressed confidence that IITRAM had prepared its graduates for these challenges through programmes in Drone Technology, AI and Machine Learning, Sustainability and Infrastructure Management.

“As you embark on this new journey, remember to innovate with purpose, lead with integrity, and collaborate for impact,” he told the graduates.

Chairman’s Medal For Computer Engineering Graduate

Patel Om Kalpeshkumar of Computer Engineering received the Chairman’s Medal for securing the highest CPI in the Class of 2026.

The medal was jointly conferred by Professor Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Professor Sudhir K. Jain, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IITRAM, while Professor P.K. Jain, Director General, IITRAM, looked on.

Four Institute Gold Medals and four Institute Silver Medals were also presented to toppers across the four engineering disciplines.

“Education is a lifelong process”

Professor Sudhir K. Jain, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IITRAM, shared experiences from his college days in his characteristic style and exhorted the graduating students to regard education as a lifelong process.

He encouraged them to face the world with confidence, drawing on the knowledge and experiences gained at the institute.

His message carried a reminder that graduation is not an end point, but the beginning of a continuing journey of learning, discovery and contribution.

Director General’s message: Stay connected, contribute

Professor P.K. Jain, Director General, IITRAM, congratulated the graduating students and medal recipients, acknowledging the patience and steadfast support of parents and families.

In his message, he said the graduates were joining a distinguished group whose support and engagement would help the institute continue to evolve and thrive.

He urged them to stay connected with IITRAM through social media and other platforms and to keep the institute informed about their journeys and achievements.

“As you leave the Institute today, equipped with the knowledge and experiences you have gained, I urge you to use your abilities not just to shape your own future, but also to contribute meaningfully to society and country at large,” he said.

He added: “I see a great future for this Institute and assure you that you will be proud of your alma mater.”

A new beginning for 129 graduates

The convocation celebrated the culmination of years of academic commitment while placing the graduates at the threshold of new professional and personal journeys.

Professor Tiwari’s closing message brought the occasion back to the responsibility and possibilities ahead: “Your journey here may be ending, but your impact is just beginning.”

For the Class of 2026, the challenge now is to translate learning into purposeful action—building technologies that serve people, advancing sustainability and contributing to society with integrity.
