NEW DELHI, JUNE 28

India has given a befitting response to those who dared to eye her territory in Ladakh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today, referring to the clash with Chinese troops in Galwan Valley on June 15 in which 20 soldiers were killed in action.

In this context, he also spoke of the economic backlash against China, mentioning how people have decided to boycott Chinese goods and how it will contribute to an Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self Reliant India).

“Those who eyed Indian territory in Ladakh have received a befitting response,” the Prime Minister said in his 66th edition of Mann ki Baat.

“If India knows how to maintain friendship, it can also confront someone and give an adequate response. Our brave soldiers made it clear that they will not allow anyone to taint the honour of Mother India,” he added, referring to the clash in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the line of duty.

“India bows to our brave martyrs. They’ve always kept India safe, valour will always be remembered,” the Prime Minister said.

The Army believes that the Chinese suffered 45 casualties during the late-night skirmish on June 15. Chinese military leaders are believed to have conveyed to their Indian counterparts the loss of a Chinese Colonel in the fighting here as well

“Be more careful when the country unlocks”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that during the unlock phase, people need to be more cautious of coronavirus pandemic. This was the 66th edition of his monthly radio programme.

Top 10 Quotes from PM Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat” programme

During the unlock phase to control the coronavirus pandemic, we have to be more cautious – we should follow social distancing norms to keep ourselves and others safe from COVID-19.

The world has seen India’s strength and commitment to peace. If India knows how to celebrate friendship, India also knows how to give a befitting reply when provoked. In Ladakh, a befitting reply has been given to those coveting our territories.

People from all over India are writing, reiterating their support to the movement to make India self-reliant. Being vocal about local is a great service to the nation. Make the country self reliant – this is the tribute we can pay to our soldiers (who died in the India-China border dispute).

I have been seeing that people are writing to me, especially youngsters, about how they are playing traditional indoor games. There is a new and strong opportunity for our generation and our start-ups. We should present India’s traditional games in a new and interesting form.

Today, we remember a great son of India, our former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He led India at a very crucial time in our history. He was a great political leader and was a scholar. PV Narasimha Rao belonged to a humble background, he fought injustice from a very young age. He connected with India ethos and was well-versed with western thoughts. I hope many more Indians will read more about him, the Prime Minister said.
