Gujarat reported its highest single-day spike of 861 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, which pushed its overall tally beyond the 39,000-mark, the state health department said.

The case count in the state now stands at 39,280, it said.
Fifteen patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, which took the state’s death toll to 2,010, the department said in a statement.
As many as 429 people were discharged from different hospitals post recovery, taking the number of recovered patients to 27,742.

Of the 429, a total of 139 patients recovered in Ahmedabad district alone, followed by 124 in Surat and 124 in Vadodara. Patients in some other districts, including Bharuch, Kheda, Mehsana, Rajkot, and Sabarkantha, also recovered.

Out of the total 861 new cases that were reported in the past 24 hours, as many as 307 were from Surat district alone, including 212 cases from Surat city and the remaining 95 from its rural areas.
Ahmedabad was at the second spot with 162 new cases, including 153 from the city and nine others from the surrounding villages.
Ahmedabad’s tally of total cases has now reached 22,580, the highest in the state.

Other districts, where a significant number of cases were reported in the last 24 hours, are Vadodara with 68, Gandhinagar with 32, and Valsad with 28 cases.
With the increase of 307 cases, the highest ever, Surat’s tally rose to 7,581, next only to Ahmedabad.
Of the total 15 deaths, as many as six patients succumbed to the infection in Surat, five in Ahmedabad, and one each in Aravalli, Patan, Banaskantha, and Bharuch.
Gujarat has so far conducted 4,41,692 tests, out of which 9,528 cases are active.
Among these, 72 are on the ventilators while 9,456 are stable.
Out of around 2.98 lakh persons currently quarantined in the state, as many as 2.95 lakh are home quarantined, while 2,989 are kept in different facilities across the state.

Surat sees record one-day spike of 307 coronavirus cases
Surat district registered a record single-day spike of 307 coronavirus cases since the previous evening on Thursday which was also the highest increase in cases in Gujarat, the state health department said.
This was the first time the district recorded more than 300 new patients for 24 hours.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Surat district thus went up to 7,581, second highest after Ahmedabad, said an official release.
Ahmedabad district reported 162 new patients on Thursday.
While 212 new patients emerged in Surat city, 95 patients were found in rural areas of the district.
Six patients also died in the last 24 hours – four in the city and two elsewhere in the district. The death toll in the Surat district thus rose to 277.
124 coronavirus patients recovered and were given discharge, taking the number of recovered patients in the district to 4,514.
Of 212 new patients in the city, the highest 58 were found in Katargam zone, followed by 32 in Varachha-A zone and 30 in Varachha-B, said a release by the Surat Municipal Corporation.
Katargam zone of the city is the worst affected area with 1,657 cases so far, followed by 1,144 in Limbayat and 844 in the Varachha-A zone.
While the SMC has already ordered the temporary closure of all the diamond units, paan shops, and street food joints in Katargam, Varachha, and Sarthana (Varachha-B) areas to stop the spread of the virus, it has also issued guidelines for textile markets.
A textile market will be shut for 14 days if two or more cases emerge in a market with 100 shops, five or more cases in a market with up to 500 shops, and 10 or more cases in a market with more than 500 shops, it said.

Ahmedabad registers 162 new coronavirus cases; 5 more die
With the detection of 162 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the count in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat rose to 22,580 on Thursday, while five more patients succumbed to the infection, the state health department said.

Among the fresh cases, 153 were reported from Ahmedabad city and the remaining nine from rural parts of the district, said a release by the health department.
Five patients died in Ahmedabad in the last 24 hours, taking the toll in the district to 1,506, it said.
Also, 139 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 17,502 in the district, the release.
These 139 recoveries included 133 from the city and the rest from different parts of Ahmedabad district.

Out of the total 2,010 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 1,506 were from Ahmedabad district alone.
While 1,449 victims were from the city, 57 deaths were reported in different villages of Ahmedabad district.
Of the total 22,580 cases registered so far, as many as 21,658 were from the city and the rest 922 from other parts of the district.
