COVID-19: TN records 3,680 new cases, total breaches 1.30L; with 64 deaths, toll mounts to 1829

Tamil Nadu on Friday recorded 3,680 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of those affected by the contagion in the state to 1,30,261, the health department said.

As many as 3,680 fresh COVID-19 cases were recorded in the state on Friday, taking the total number of those affected by the contagion in the state to 1,30,261, the health department said.

With 64 fatalities reported, the death toll has gone up to 1,829, a department bulletin said.

There was a significant jump in recoveries today which surpassed the number of those infected as 4,163 people got discharged from various health care facilities.

With this, the cumulative figure of those who recovered has gone up to 82,324.

The number of active cases as of today was at 46,105, the bulletin said.

A total of 37,309 samples were tested on Friday alone at the 101 testing facilities operating in the state, taking the tally to 15,29,092 specimens till date.

Chennai continued to witness a downward trend in the number of fresh infections with 1,205 new cases reported, the bulletin said.

According to the bulletin, out of the 3,680 new cases, 44 of them were returnees to the state from various destinations.

Among the 64 fatalities, seven were without any comorbidities, the bulletin said.

A 19-month-old baby boy from neighbouring Kancheepuram district and a 86-year-old man from the city were among those who died due to the virus, the bulletin said.

Several districts including Chengalpet 242, Kanyakumari 105, Madurai 192, Salem 125, Theni 108, Thiruvallur 219, Thiruvannamalai 101, Tuticorin 194, Tirunelveli 141, Tiruchirapalli 108, Vellore 140, Virudhunagar 143 reported cases in three digit marks, the bulletin said .

Chennai’s tally of cases has gone up to 74,969 with the fresh additions, the bulletin said.

The number of those discharged in the state capital was at 2,869, more than double that of those infected today.

Out of the 101 testing facilities, 53 of them were government operated,the bulletin said, adding, a private facility in the city has received the approval to conduct COVID-19 tests, the bulletin said.
