Tamil Nadu continued to witness a surge in Coronavirus cases with the highest daily spike of 6,785 fresh infections, pushing the tally towards the two lakh mark, while the death toll touched 3,320 with 88 fatalities, the health department said on Friday.

The tally rose to 1,99,749 with the addition of the fresh cases, a health department bulletin said.
On Thursday, the state reported 6,472 new cases and 88 fatalities.
The state also recorded new daily high in the number of recoveries and testing with 6,504 people being discharged from various hospitals and a staggering 65,150 samples being examined.
The total number of recoveries till date stood at 1,43,297 while the active cases at 53,132, the bulletin said.
More than three fourths of the fresh cases were from districts other than Chennai, which continued to clock lower numbers, at 1,299, totalling to 92,206 so far.
With the majority of the deaths comprised people above the age of 50 years, a 96 year old woman from the city died due to respiratory failure, the bulletin said.
Barring Chennai, several districts like Virudhunagar with 423 fresh infections, Chengalpet 419,Thiruvallur 378, Madurai 326,Theni 234, Ranipet 222, Tiruchirappalli 217, continued to record a sharp increase in the number of people contracting the virus, the bulletin added.
