The Konark Corps on Sunday commemorated 21 years of Indian Army’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war of 1999 as it joined the nation in remembering the heroes of “Operation Vijay”, a Defence release said.

On the occasion, Lieutenant General Anil Puri, General Officer Commanding Konark Corps, laid a wreath at Konark War Memorial at Jodhpur Military Station to pay obeisance to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice to make this victory possible.

“Kargil Vijay Diwas is named after the success of ‘Operation Vijay’, which commemorates the victory achieved over Pakistani intruders in the Kargil War of 1999. The operation was a saga of bravery and valour that lasted 80 days and ended with eviction of the intruders. Fighting at daunting altitudes and seemingly unassailable peaks ranging from 13,000 to 18,000 feet, what our Indian troops achieved was nothing short of a miracle,” the spokesman said.

He said the occasion commemorates the glorious victory of the Indian armed forces against the Pakistan Army intruders in the Kargil, Drass and Batalik sectors in 1999.
