COVID-19: Gujarat records 1,052 cases, tally nears 57K; 22 die, 1,015 recover

Even as an IIMA study lauded Vijay Rupani-led state government for its effective handling of COVID-19 so far, Gujarat reported 1,052 new coronavirus cases on Monday, taking the statewide tally to 56,874, while 22 more patients succumbed to the infection, nine of them in Surat, the health department said.

With the death of 22 COVID-19 patients, fatalities rose to 2,348, it said.

The number of recovered cases rose to 41,380 after 1,015 patients were discharged from hospitals across the state, the department said.

Surat reported 258 new cases, the highest in the state, followed by Ahmedabad at 184.

The number of coronavirus positive cases in Surat district rose to 12,526, while Ahmedabad’s tally increased to 25,876.

Out of the 1,015 patients discharged on Monday, 463 were reported from Ahmedabad, raising the number of such cases in the district to 20,834.

Among other districts, Vadodara reported 96 new cases, Rajkot 74, Gandhinagar 34, Bhavnagar 33, Surendranagar 30, Dahod and Patan 27 each, Junagadh 26, Bharuch 24, Amreli 22, Banaskantha and Valsad 19 each, Mehsana 17, Gir Somnath, Kheda and Navsari 16 each, Anand, Kutch and Panchmahal 12 each, Mahisagar and Morbi 11 and Sabarkantha 10, among others.

With nine fatalities, Surat reported the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the state on Monday, followed by four in Ahmedabad, three in Vadodara, two in Patan, and one each in Bhavnagar, Mehsana, Junagadh and Panchmahal, the department said.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 13,146 with the condition of 81 patients being critical, it added.

As many as 4,73,299 persons have been quarantined.

A total 6,67,844 samples have been tested so far in the state, the department said in its release.

This included 25,474 tests conducted on Monday, which comes to 391.90 per million per day tests, it said.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 56,874, new cases 1,052, deaths 2,348, discharged 41,380, active cases 13,146 and people tested so far 6,67,844.

Surat records 258 new cases; 9 die, 292 recover

Surat district reported 258 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking its total to 12,526, while the death toll crossed the 550-mark, the state health department said.

The district reported the death of nine COVID-19 patients, taking the fatalities to 553, it said.

Of the new cases, 204 were reported from Surat city.

The COVID-19 tally in Surat city crossed the 10,000- mark to stand at 10,134 with 204 new cases reported on Monday, local health officials said.

As many as 54 new cases were reported from rural parts, where the count rose to 2,392, they said.

A total of 8,380 patients have been discharged so far in the district, with 292 more people recovering on Monday – 190 in the city and 102 in rural parts.

The number of patients discharged in rural parts so far stood at 1,544.

With this, Surat now has 3,593 active cases, the officials said.

AMC launched 104 services from 1 June to provide medical services, who can't approach nearby hospitals or UHC. It provides counseling, screening & medical assistance.

Ahmedabad logs 184 cases; 463 discharged, 4 die

Ahmedabad district reported 184 new coronavirus cases on Monday, taking its tally to 25,876, while more than 460 patients recovered from the viral infection, the Gujarat health department said.

The district also reported the death of four COVID-19 patients, taking the toll to 1,579, it said.

At the same time, 463 patients were discharged, raising the number of recovered cases in the district to 20,834, the department said in a release.

Ahmedabad city reported 144 new cases, while rural parts of the district recorded 40 new infections, it said.

Also, 454 out of the 463 recoveries were reported from the city, the department said.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Monday said it has so far provided services to over 11,000 patients through its ”104” helpline.

The helpline was launched on June 1 to provide medical services to people who cannot approach nearby hospitals or urban health centres.

The services provided through the toll-free number include counselling, screening and medical assistance, with antigen testing added recently.

The recovery rate of Ahmedabad city is close to 81 per cent, with the number of discharged patients crossing the 20,000-mark to stand at 20,226 so far.

The city’s western zone remains the worst affected by coronavirus with 545 active cases, followed by the north-west zone with 483 such infections, as per an AMC COVID-19 bulletin released on Monday afternoon.

The central zone remains the least affected with 302 active cases as of now, the bulletin added.
