Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally rose to 87,846 on Monday with the addition of 1,067 new cases, while 13 people died, including five in Surat, taking the cumulative fatality count to 2,910, the state health department said.
A total of 1,021 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 70,250, it said, adding that the recovery rate stands at 80 percent.
At 229, Surat reported the highest number of cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad which added 165 patients.
Of the 13 deaths, five fatalities occurred in Surat, followed by three deaths in Ahmedabad. Two deaths each were reported in Vadodara and Rajkot while one patient succumbed to in Jamnagar, as per the department.
The number of active cases in the state now stands at 14,686, it said.
63,065 tests were conducted in the day, which comes at the rate of 970.23 tests per day per million population, an official release said.
A total of 18,19,198 samples have been tested in the state so far, it said.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 87,846, new cases 1,067, deaths 2,910, discharged 70,250, active cases 14,686 and people tested so far 18,19,198.
Surat reports 229 new coronavirus cases
Surat reported 229 new coronavirus cases on Monday, the highest for a district in Gujarat, taking its tally to 19,423, the state health department said.
With the death of five COVID-19 patients, also the highest in the state, the toll in Surat district rose to 782, it said.
The number of recovered cases in the district rose to 15,985 with 182 more patients getting discharged, the department said in a release.
Surat city reported 159 new cases and the rural parts of the district 70.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Surat city rose to 15,255 and in the rural parts to 4,168.
The Surat Municipal Corporation said it has surveyed over 7 lakh population in areas from where positive cases were reported.
A total of 27,832 persons are quarantined in the city, it said.
A’bad cases rise by 165 to 30,362; 3 die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 30,362 on Monday with the addition of 165 new cases, the Gujarat health department said.
With three deaths, the toll went up to 1,688, it said.

The number of recoveries rose to 25,268 with 164 patients getting discharged in the day, the department said.
Out of the 165 new cases, Ahmedabad city added 151 cases while 14 patients were detected in rural areas.
All three deaths occurred in the city, it added.

Ahmedabad city has achieved a recovery rate of 84.1 percent with 23,997 patients getting discharged so far, the civic body said.
At 2,905, active cases accounted for 10.2 percent of the total cases, it said.
City’s west and north-west zones have an equal share of 463 active cases, the highest among city zones, the AMC said.
Total COVID-19 cases in rural parts of the district rose to 1,664 with the addition of 14 patients in the day, officials said.
With 16 more patients getting discharged, the number of recovered cases in rural parts went up to 1,518, with the recovery rate of 91 percent, they said, adding that the death toll stood at 58.
