COVID-19: Gujarat records more recoveries than new cases in 24 hours

With 1,190 new cases, Gujarat is on the 17th spot in the country in terms of daily fresh cases.

With 1,190 new coronavirus cases recorded in the last 24 hours, Gujarat’s tally rose to 91,329 on Thursday, while 17 more patients succumbed to the infection, the state Health Department said.

As many as 17 persons with the COVID-19 infection died across the state during the same period, taking the toll to 2,964, said a release from the Health Department.

Of the 17 fatalities, 5 died in Surat district followed by 3 each in Ahmedabad and Rajkot, and one each in Amreli, Anand, Kutch, Patan, Vadodara, and Valsad, it said.

Also, 1,193 persons recovered from the infection and were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of such cases to 73,501, the release.

It said 213 patients, the highest in Gujarat, recovered in the Vadodara district followed by 212 in Surat and 152 in Ahmedabad.

The state government said it had conducted over 76,000 tests in 24 hours, up by 8,000 from last week. With 76,227 tests conducted in one day, the per million average has now gone up to 1,172.72 test, the release said.

The release said Gujarat has conducted over 20 lakh tests so far.

The state has 14,864 active cases of which 91 patients are on ventilators while 14,773 are stable, it said.

With almost an equal number of recoveries and daily fresh cases, active cases are hovering around the 14,000-mark since the last several weeks.

With 1,190 new cases, Gujarat is on the 17th spot in the country in terms of daily fresh cases.

Out of the 1,190 new cases, 258 were from the Surat district alone. Ahmedabad was on the second spot with 163 new cases.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 91,329, new cases 1,190, deaths 2,964, discharged 73,501, active cases 14,864, people tested so far 20,45,951.

Surat adds 258 new cases to cross 20,000-mark

Surat district recorded 258 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally above the 20,000-mark on Thursday, the state Health Department said.

Five more deaths took the toll to 799 in the district, it said.

With the addition of 258 new cases, the number of infections in Surat district rose to 20,055, said a release by the Health Department.

Surat reported the highest number of cases for any district in the state in the last 24 hours.

Surat’s tally of 20,055 cases is the second-highest after Ahmedabad, where 30,845 persons have been found infected so far.

Out of the 258 new cases, 169 cases were from Surat city and 89 from rural parts of the district, the release said.

While three patients from the city died in the last 24 hours, two others succumbed to the infection in rural Surat, taking the toll to 799 in the district, it said.

Also, 212 persons, second highest in Gujarat after Vadodara, recovered and were discharged, taking the number of such cases to 16,529, the release said.

Ahmedabad district recorded 163 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 30,845 on Thursday, while 152 more patients recovered from the infection, the state Health Department said.

Out of these 163 new cases, 143 were from Ahmedabad city and 20 from rural parts of the district, said a release by the Health Department.

With the death of three more COVID-19 patients, the toll in the district reached 1,716, it said.

As many as 152 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district also recovered and were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, the release added.

These 152 recoveries include 141 from the city and 11 from rural areas of Ahmedabad district.

The tally of recovery in the district has gone up to 25,757, it said.

Out of the total 2,964 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 1,716 were from Ahmedabad district alone.
