Coronavirus cases in Gujarat crossed the one lakh mark on Thursday with an addition of 1,325 cases, also the highest single-day spike.

The first confirmed case of coronavirus in Gujarat was recorded on March 19.

The tally touched 1,00,375 on Thursday, said a release by the state health department.
With 16 COVID-19 patients succumbing, the death toll due to the pandemic in the state reached 3,064, it said.
Since Wednesday evening, five coronavirus patients died in Surat district, three each in Ahmedabad and Rajkot, two in Vadodara, and one each in Bharuch, Bhavnagar, and Gandhinagar districts.
At the same time, 1,126 persons were given a discharge from hospitals in the state, taking the total of recovered patients to 81,180.
Of 1,325 new cases, 272 were from Surat district alone. Ahmedabad was in the second spot with 166 new cases.
Other districts where a significant number of new cases were found included Rajkot (135 cases), Vadodara (123), Jamnagar (115), and Bhavnagar (58).
But the Surat district also saw 291 patients, the highest in Gujarat, recovering on Thursday, followed by 198 in Vadodara and 125 in Rajkot.
The patient recovery rate is now 80.88 percent.
With 75,487 tests conducted in one day, the per million average has now gone up to 1,161.33 tests, the release said.
Over 25.59 lakh coronavirus tests have been conducted in Gujarat so far.
There are 16,131 active cases, including 89 who are on ventilators.
With 1,325 new cases, Gujarat is in the 18th spot in the country in terms of an increase in patients.
Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,00,375, new cases 1,325, deaths 3,064, discharged 81,180, active cases 16,131, and people tested so far 25,59,916.
A’bad reports 166 new cases, 3 deaths
Ahmedabad recorded 166 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the district’s count of patients to 32,013, the state health department said on Thursday.
Of these new cases, 150 were from Ahmedabad city and 16 from other parts of the district, it said in a statement.
With the death of three patients during this period, the fatality count in the district reached 1,741, it added.
A total of 76 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district recovered from the infection and got discharge in the last 24 hours, the department said. Sixty-two of the recovered patients were from Ahmedabad city.
With this, the district’s recovery count reached 26,608.
In order to contain the spread of the deadly virus, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has already started aggressive testing, covering different parts and sections of the society.
In one such rapid antigen testing exercise, 28 persons, including sadhus and employees of Shahibaug Swaminarayan temple, tested positive in the last two days, the AMC said in a statement on Thursday.
Similarly, five construction workers from different parts of the city and nine employees of a major publishing house were also found infected, it added.
Out of the total 3,064 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 1,741 were reported from Ahmedabad district alone. While 1,683 of them were from the city, 58 belonged to the rural parts of the district.
272 new coronavirus cases in Surat
Surat recorded 272 new coronavirus cases on Thursday which took the case tally in the district to 21,762, the Gujarat Health Department said on Thursday.
The daily rise in the number of cases in Surat was once again the highest in the state.
The caseload of Surat district at 21,762 is the second biggest after Ahmedabad which has recorded 32,013 cases of infection so far.
Of 272 new cases, 179 cases were from Surat city while 93 cases were from other parts of the district, the health department said.
While two persons from the city died in the last 24 hours, three deaths were reported from rural areas, taking the death toll to 830 in the district.
291 persons, the highest in Gujarat, also recovered and given discharge during the day in Surat district.
