As many as 1,332 more persons tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Gujarat, taking its tally to 1,09,627 on Thursday, while more than 1,400 patients were discharged from hospitals, the state Health Department said.

This was the second-highest single-day spike in cases after the September 6 tally of 1,335.

With the addition of 1,332 more cases, Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally rose to 1,09,627, said a release by the Health Department.

15 persons with the COVID-19 infection died across the state during the same period, taking the toll to 3,167, said the release.

The release said as many as 1,415 persons recovered from the infection and discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of such cases to 90,230.

As many as 278 new cases were from Surat district alone. Ahmedabad was on the second spot with 167 new cases.

Ahmedabad’s tally of total cases has now reached 33,204 cases, the highest in the state.

Other districts where a significant number of cases emerged included Rajkot (150), Vadodara (124), Jamnagar (105), and Bhavnagar (64), the release said.

Of the total 15 persons who succumbed to the infection during the last 24 hours, 4 each died in Ahmedabad and Surat, followed by 2 in Amreli and one each in Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Sabarkantha, and Vadodara, it said.

The state government said it had conducted over 72,000 tests in the last 24 hours, taking the daily per million average to 1,110.01 tests, the release said.

The release said Gujarat has conducted over 30.73 lakh tests so far.

The state at present has 16,230 active cases. Among these, 91 patients are on ventilators while 16,139 are in stable condition.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,09,627, new cases 1,332, deaths 3,167, discharged 90,230, active cases 16,230, people tested so far 30,73,534.

278 new coronavirus cases in Surat

Surat district recorded 278 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of cases in the district to 23,611, said a release by the state health department on late Thursday evening.

While three persons from the city died due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, one death was reported from the rural parts, taking the death toll to 855 in the district.

Surat remains the worst-affected district in Gujarat in terms of an increase in cases.

The case count in the district is the second biggest after Ahmedabad, where 33,204 cases have been detected so far.

Today’s addition of 278 new cases in Surat district is also the highest in the state.

176 new cases were from Surat city while 102 cases were from rural parts of the district, the release said.

A total of 334 persons, highest in Gujarat on Thursday, were given a discharge in the last 24 hours, said the release.

Ahmedabad records 167 new cases; 134 recover

Ahmedabad district recorded 167 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 33,204 on Thursday, the state Health Department said.

Out of these 167 new cases, 148 were from Ahmedabad city and 19 from the rural parts of the district, said a release by the Health Department.

With the death of four COVID-19 patients during the same period, the toll in the district rose to 1,764, it said.

Also, 134 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district recovered and discharged in the last 24 hours, the release added.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has ramped up testing across the city and deployed a team at the city’s Kalupur railway station to screen incoming passengers, said a release by the AMC.

Out of 1,579 passengers screened by the team upon their arrival on Thursday, 28 tested positive for coronavirus and subsequently shifted to designated COVID-19 hospitals, said the release.

With 134 more recoveries, the tally of discharged patients in the district has now gone up to 27,279.

Out of the total 3,167 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 1,764 were from Ahmedabad district alone.
