COVID-19: 1,326 new cases in Gujarat, death count rises by 15

District-wise, Surat on Sunday reported 281 new cases, the highest in the state, Ahmedabad 172 and Rajkot 151.

With the addition of 1,326 coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, Gujarat’s overall tally went up to 1,13,662, the state health department said.

With 15 deaths, the fatality count reached 3,213, it said.

A total of 1,205 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the number of recovered cases in the state to 94,010, the department said in its release.

District-wise, Surat on Sunday reported 281 new cases, the highest in the state, Ahmedabad 172 and Rajkot 151.

Vadodara with 124 cases and Jamnagar with 120 cases were two other districts that reported over 100 new cases Sunday.

Bhavnagar district reported 69 new cases, Gandhinagar 46, Junagadh 36, Mehsana 32, Panchmahal 30, Kutch 28, Amreli 25, Bharuch 21, Surendranagar 19, Banaskantha 18, Dahod 17, Morbi 15, Gir Somnath 14, Sabarkantha 13, it said.

Of the 15 deaths reported on Sunday, the highest number of six fatalities were reported from Surat, four from Ahmedabad, two from Vadodara, and one each from Bharuch, Bhavnagar, and Rajkot.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 16,439, of which 87 patients are on ventilator support, while the condition of 16,352 others is stable.

In the last 24 hours, 68,828 tests were conducted in Gujarat at the rate of 1,058.89 tests per day per million population, the department said.

With this, the number of samples tested in the state so far has increased to 32,88,811.

Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,13,662, new cases 1,326, deaths 3,213, discharged 94,010, active cases 16,439, and people tested so far 32,88,811.

In Surat, more recoveries than new cases, 6 die

Surat district on Sunday reported the highest number of 281 COVID-19 cases in the state, the health department said.

At six, the district also reported the highest number of fatalities across the state in the day.

The total case tally in the district now stands at 24,445, while the death toll reached 871, it said.

At the same time, 300 patients were discharged in the day, exceeding the number of the new cases, the department said in a release.

While 175 new cases were reported in Surat city, the number of recoveries stood at 185. Similarly, 106 new infections were reported in rural parts as against 115 recoveries, it said.

Surat’s case recovery rate stands at 88.2 percent, with 16,417 patients discharged so far, the civic body said.

It further said that out of 3,046 beds available in two government hospitals for COVID-19 patients, only 255 beds remained occupied.

A total of 942 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised in different hospitals, including private hospitals, requisitioned by the municipal corporation.

Out of 2,225 beds in the civil hospital, only 152 are occupied, while only 103 of the 821 beds remained occupied  in SMIMER Hospital, it said.

Ahmedabad adds 172 cases; tally 33,725; four die

The COVID-19 tally in Ahmedabad district rose to 33,725 on Sunday with the addition of 172 new cases, the Gujarat health department said.

With four more patients succumbing to the infection, the toll went up to 1,774, it said.

A total of 156 patients – 135 from the city and 21 from rural areas – were discharged after treatment in the day, raising the count of recoveries in the district to 27,713, the department said in a release.

151 of the 172 new cases were reported from Ahmedabad city while rural areas added 21 patients.

All the four fatalities occurred in the city, it said.

The total number of cases in rural areas now stands at 2,062, while the count of recoveries reached 1,924, officials said.

In its health bulletin, the civic body said Ahmedabad has 3,716 active cases.

Meanwhile, 41 of the total 2,188 incoming passengers tested at the railway station here were found coronavirus positive, the municipal corporation said.

The total number of micro containment areas in the city now stands at 381.
