Gujarat reported 1,351 new coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours, which took its overall infection count to 1,38,745, the health department said on Thursday.
Notably, nearly as many numbers of coronavirus patients recovered during the same period in the state.
A total of 1,334 patients were given a discharge in the last 24 hours, which took the state”s recovery count to 1,18,565, the department said in a statement.
The death toll due to the virus reached 3,463 on Thursday after 10 patients succumbed to the infection.
Gujarat has so far conducted over 44.74 lakh tests and the number of active cases in the state is 16,717. Of these, 89 are on a ventilator, while 16,628 are stable.
According to the health department, Gujarat”s recovery rate now stands at 85.46 percent with over 1.18 lakh recoveries so far.
With over 56,700 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the per million average has gone up to 872.89 tests per day.
Despite various efforts towards containing the virus, Surat continues to remain the worst-affected district with 288 cases reported in 24 hours.
Ahmedabad was at the second spot with 193 new cases, including 172 from the city areas and 21 from rural parts.
Other districts where a significant number of cases were reported to include Rajkot (155), Vadodara (134), Jamnagar (92), 48 in Mehsana, and 46 cases in Bhavnagar.
Of the 10 fatalities, four were reported in Surat, three in Ahmedabad, and one each in Panchmahal, Sabarkantha, and Vadodara districts.

Ahmedabad reports 193 new cases, 256 recoveries
Ahmedabad district of Gujarat recorded 193 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 37,040 on Thursday, the state government said.
With the death of three more COVID-19 patients during the same period, the toll in the district reached 1,831, nearly half of the total 3,463 fatalities registered in Gujarat till now, it said.
Also, 256 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district recovered and discharged in the last 24 hours, said a state government release.
With this, the tally of recovered cases in the district went up to 31,095, it said.
Among the 256 recoveries, 238 were reported from the city and 18 from rural parts of Ahmedabad district, the release said.
Out of the 193 fresh cases, 172 were from Ahmedabad city and 21 from rural parts of the district.
As part of the local civic body’s intensive surveillance and testing strategy to identify positive patients, health teams have been deployed at Kalupur railway station to test incoming passengers.
On Thursday, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) tested 1,382 incoming passengers at the station and found that seven of them were infected with the disease, an AMC release said.
Surat district records 288 cases, 299 recoveries
As many as 288 more persons from Surat district of Gujarat tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 28,481 on Thursday, said the state Health Department.
A total of 299 persons, highest for a district in Gujarat, also recovered and discharged from hospitals during the same period, said a Health Department release.
Along with conducting rapid antigen tests to identify positive patients, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is also penalising people not following Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) put in place to control the spread of the virus in the city.
On Thursday, the civic body collected a fine of Rs 36,800 from 111 persons found violating social distancing norms, said an SMC release.
Similarly, Rs 26,800 in fine was collected from 101 persons who were found roaming without face masks, it said.
Till now, the civic body has collected a cumulative fine of Rs 2.05 crore from 48,063 violators, said the release.
The addition of 288 new cases in the last 24 hours was the highest for a district in the state.
Surat’s tally of 28,481 cases is second highest after Ahmedabad, where 37,040 persons have been found infected by the virus so far.
Out of these 288 new cases, 176 were reported from Surat city and 112 from rural parts of the district, the Health Department release said.
Four patients, two each from Surat city and rural parts, succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 942 in the district, it said.
