Gujarat reported 996 new coronavirus cases on Monday, taking the caseload in the state to 1,60,722, the health department said.

The number of new cases in the state dropped below the 1,000-mark after around three months. The daily spike had reached the four-digit mark in the last week of July.

With eight patients dying, the COVID-19 death toll in the state rose to 3,646 on Monday.

1,147 patients were discharged from various hospitals, increasing the number of recovered cases in the state to 1,42,799, the department said in its release.

With this, Gujarat’s recovery rate further improved to 88.85 per cent.

52,192 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, increasing the total of samples tested so far to 54,26,621.

Surat continues to report the highest number of daily cases. On Monday, the district reported 227 new cases, followed by Ahmedabad at 178 and Vadodara at 112.

Among other districts, Rajkot reported 83 new cases, Jamnagar 66, Gandhinagar 40, Mehsana 32, Patan 26, Kutch 21, Amreli 18, Banaskantha 16, Surendranagar 15, Sabarkantha 14, Morbi 13, Gir Somnath 12, Bharuch 11.

Out of eight deaths, Ahmedabad and Surat reported three each and Vadodara two.

The number of active cases in Gujarat stands at 14,277, out of which 71 patients are on the ventilator.

The Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli has reported a total 3,161 COVID-19 cases, with the addition of two cases – one each in Daman and DNH – on Monday, officials said. The death toll in the UT is now three, with one death reported in Daman on Monday.

With 13 patients getting discharged, the total number of recovered cases in the UT rose to 3,116.

Gujarat coronavirus figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,60,722, new cases 996, death toll 3,646, discharged 1,42,799, active cases 14,277, and people tested so far 54,26,621.

 

178 cases, 3 deaths in Ahmedabad; 190 discharged

The overall COVID-19 count of Ahmedabad rose to 40,388 with the addition of 178 new cases on Monday, while three deaths in the district”s city limits took the toll to 1,892, an official said.

As many as 190 people were discharged post-recovery, taking the count of such cases to 35,030.

“While the city reported160 new cases and 168 recoveries, the rural parts reported 18 new cases and 22 recoveries,” an official said.

The number of micro containment areas in Ahmedabad city stood at 108, with the addition of 10 and removal of 11 such areas, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said.

As per the COVID-19 bulletin released by the AMC on Monday afternoon, the city’s north-west zone has the highest number of active cases at 517, followed by south-west zone with 493 cases and 491 in the west zone.

With 18 new cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in rural Ahmedabad rose to 2,789, while the discharge of 22 people took the number of those recovered to 2,682, an official said.

The recovery rate in rural Ahmedabad stands at 96 per cent.

Surat count rises by 227, toll by 3, 257 discharged

Surat’s COVID-19 tally rose to 33,179 after 227 new cases were reported on Monday, the highest in the state, while the district’s fatalities rose to 994 after three patients died, an official said.

The number of people recovering per day continued to exceed the number of new cases detected, he said, adding that 257 people were discharged during Monday.

“While Surat city reported169 recoveries against 165 new cases, the rural parts reported 88 recoveries against 62 new cases,” he said

The Surat Municipal Corporation on Monday said 22,815 people had been discharged so far, giving the city a recovery rate of 92 per cent.

“A total of 598 patients are admitted in various city hospitals, including 195 in two government hospitals, against a bed capacity of 3,046. As many as 26,059 patients are quarantined in the city currently,” an SMC official said.

Surat city’s Athwa locality has reported the highest number of 4,595 COVID-19 cases, with 35 new cases added on Monday, followed by Katargam with 4,259, including 24 new cases.

In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka leads with 1,791 COVID- 19 cases, followed by Bardoli with 1,574.
