Gujarat: 1,112 contract COVID-19; active cases below 14,000

Gujarat registered 1,112 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 1,65,233 on Friday, while 1,264 patients recovered from the infection, the state Health Department said.

The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 3,676 after six more persons succumbed to the infection during the same period, said a release by the Health Department.

The state government claimed the COVID-19 situation is gradually improving with 1,264 more patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the total recoveries to 1,47,572.

After a long time, the number of active cases dropped below the 14,000-mark on Friday.

At present, Gujarat has 13,985 active COVID-19 cases, of which, 69 patients are on the ventilator.

During the day, two patients each from Ahmedabad and Surat and one each from Gandhinagar and Banaskantha succumbed to the infection, the release said.

It said 239 persons tested positive for coronavirus in Surat during the day, followed by 182 in Ahmedabad, 121 in Vadodara, 107 in Rajkot, 55 in Jamnagar, and 38 in Gandhinagar.

With significant recoveries in recent times, the COVID-19 recovery rate has gone up to 89.31 percent, the release said.

With 52,947 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the test tally has gone up to more than 56.38 lakh, it said.

In the last 24 hours, 7 fresh cases of coronavirus were detected while 3 persons were discharged from hospitals in the Union Territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu located adjoining Gujarat.

As many as 3,195 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in the Union Territory (UT) to date.

Of these, two have died, 3,142 have recovered and 51 patients are under treatment, said a release by the UT administration on Friday.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,65,233, new cases 1,112, deaths 3,676, discharged 1,47,572, active cases 13,985, people tested so far 56,38,392.

182 cases, 2 deaths in Ahmedabad; 171 discharged

The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad in Gujarat reached 41,014 after 182 people were detected with the infection on Friday, while two deaths in the last 24 hours took the toll to 1,900, an official said.

He said 171 people were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of such cases to 35,733.

“Of the new cases, 166 were in city limits. Of the people discharged, 164 were from city limits and the rest from rural areas of the district,” the official informed.
