The COVID-19 infection count in Gujarat reached 1,71,040 on Thursday after 987 people tested positive in the last 24 hours, the state health department said.

As many as 1,083 patients recovered during this period, which took the state’s recovery count to 1,54,078, it said.
The death toll due to the virus now stands at 3,708 as four patients succumbed to the infection, the department said in a release.
While two patients died in Surat in the last 24 hours, one each died in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar district.
In Surat, 213 new cases were reported during the day, followed by 171 in Ahmedabad, 117 in Vadodara, 96 in Rajkot, 34 in Gandhinagar, and 33 in Mehsana.
The state government said that an impressive 90.08 percent of patients have recovered so far. The number of active cases in the state is 13,254, it said.
As many as 52,989 tests were conducted in the state on Thursday.
So far, 59.50 lakh people have been tested by the authorities.
A total of six fresh coronavirus cases were detected during the day in the adjoining union territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
As many as 3,218 people have tested positive in the union territory to date.
Of these, two have died, 3,167 have recovered and 49 cases are still active, a release by the UT administration said.

Ahmedabad reports 171 new COVID-19 cases, 219 recoveries
As many as 171 fresh cases of coronavirus were detected in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat in the last 24 hours, taking the tally above the 42,000-mark on Thursday, said the state Health Department.
Ahmedabad’s COVID-19 tally rose to 42,155 following the addition of 171 new cases, said a release by the Health Department.
While 159 persons were found COVID-19 positive in Ahmedabad city, 12 cases were reported from rural areas of the district in the last 24 hours, said the release.
One patient from the district also died due to the infection, taking the toll to 1,913, it said.
The release said 219 patients also recovered and discharged from hospitals during the day.
Of these, 201 were from the city and the remaining 18 from rural parts of the district, it added.
