Gujarat reported 935 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, raising its case tally to 1,72,944, the state health department said.
With five deaths, the number of fatalities increased to 3,719, it said.
At the same time, 1,014 patients recovered and were discharged, taking the total number of recovered cases to 1,56,119, said the department in its release.
With this, the state’s recovery rate rose to 90.27 percent.
A total of 51,574 tests were conducted in the state for coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
Surat reported the highest 227 new cases during the day, followed by Ahmedabad at 178 and Vadodara at 119.
Among other districts, Rajkot reported 68 new cases, Gandhinagar 40, Mehsana 29, Jamnagar and Junagadh 28 each, Bharuch 18, Amreli and Kheda 16 each, Anand and Surendranagar 15 each, Banaskantha 14, Bhavnagar and Sabarkantha 13 each, Morbi, Panchmahal and Patan 12 each, Kutch 11.
Out of five deaths, Ahmedabad reported two and Patan, Rajkot, and Surat one each.
There are now 13,106 active cases in Gujarat, out of which 59 patients are on the ventilator, said the department.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu, and Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the total number of coronavirus cases rose to 3,226 with the addition of three cases, all from Daman, officials said.
The number of recovered cases in the UT rose to 3,186 after 14 more patients were discharged – two from Daman, one from Diu, and 11 from DNH.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,72,944, new cases 935, deaths 3,719, discharged 1,56,119, active cases 13,106 and people tested so far 60,53,847.
Ahmedabad logs 178 new cases, 225 recover
Ahmedabad district’s COVID-19 tally rose to 42,514 with the addition of 178 new cases, while 225 people were discharged and two succumbed to the infection on Saturday, a health official said.
The number of people who have recovered stands at 37,308 while the death toll is 1,917, he said.
“In Ahmedabad city, there were 166 new cases while 212 people recovered, while these figures for the rural parts were 12 and 13 respectively. The city’s western zone has 453 active cases, the highest among seven zones, followed by north-west with 449. the Central zone has the lowest at 313,” he said.
Micro containment zones under Ahmedabad municipal corporation limits are 91 after 11 such areas were removed from the list and six added.
Surat registers 227 new COVID-19 cases, 243 discharged
Surat reported 227 new coronavirus positive cases on Saturday, the highest in Gujarat, raising its tally to 35,921, while 243 people were discharged and one succumbed to the infection, an official said.
Surat city accounted for 168 of the new cases and 169 of the people discharged, while these figures in the rural areas were 59 and 74, respectively.
“With 24,978 people getting discharged so far, Surat city has a recovery rate of 93.20 percent. Currently, 16,566 people are in quarantine while 8.4 lakh people have been surveyed for symptoms. The number of people hospitalised stands at 391,” said a Surat Municipal Corporation official.
Kamrej leads the infection count in rural Surat with 1,961 cases so far, including 23 on Saturday, while Choryasi is second with 1,909 cases.
