Gujarat on Sunday reported 1,020 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections to 1,80,699, the state health department said.

With seven more patients, including two each in Ahmedabad and Surat and one each in Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, and Sabarkantha, succumbing to the viral infection, the cumulative toll climbed to 3,763, it said.

A total of 819 patients were discharged in the day, which raised the number of recoveries to 1,64,596, the department said, adding that the case recovery rate in the state now stands at 91.09 percent.

51,191 tests were conducted across the state in the day at the rate of 787.55 tests per day per million population.

A total of 64,68,154 samples have been tested so far, the department added.

In 194, Surat reported the highest number of cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad which added 185 cases, while 127 patients were detected in Vadodara and 113 in Rajkot.

Elsewhere in the state, Mehsana reported 75 new cases, Gandhinagar 66, Jamnagar 26, Bharuch 21, Sabarkantha and Surendranagar 20 each, Banaskantha 19, Junagadh 18, Patan 17, Kutch and Bhavnagar 14 each, Panchmahal 12, Morbi 10, etc.

The number of active cases in the state stood at 12,340, the department said.

No new case was reported in neighbouring Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra, and Nagar Haveli in the day, where the number of infections so far stood at 3,247.

With seven patients being discharged in the day, the number of recoveries in the UT rose to 3,220, officials said.

Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,80,699, new cases 1,020, deaths 3,763, discharged 1,64,596, active cases 12,340 and people tested so far 64,68,154.

Surat: 194 cases, 2 deaths, 217 discharged on Sunday

Surat reported194 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the highest for any district in Gujarat, taking the overall count to 37,362, while 217 people were discharged and two succumbed to the infection during the day, an official said.

The toll in the district is 1,030, and the number of people who have been discharged in city limits is 26,336, giving the latter areas a recovery rate of 93.8 per cent, he said.

“Surat city reported 169 recoveries compared to 160 new cases. The rural areas reported 48 recoveries compared to 34 new cases,” he added.

Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials said 13,627 persons are quarantined and 336 hospitalised, including 110 in the state-run civil hospital and 76 in civic-run SMIMER Hospital.

The two hospitals have bed occupancy rates of 4.94 and 9.26 percent respectively.

In rural Surat, COVID-19 cases in Kamrej rose to 2,074, the highest among nine talukas, with six new cases on Sunday, officials said.

Ahmedabad sees 185 cases, 2 deaths; 199 recover

Ahmedabad reported 185 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the district’s tally to 43,923, while two deaths raised the toll to 1,934, an official said.

While the city limits accounted for 165 new cases, the number of people discharged during the day was higher at 180, out of 199 in the district, he added.

“The total number of people who have recovered in the district is 38,807. Within Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits, the north-west zone has the highest number of 443 active cases, followed by the west zone with 438, south zone 431, while central zone has the lowest at 277,” he said.

With the rise in the number of cases in the city, the bed occupancy rate in its private hospitals rose to 65.8 percent, with 1,352 out of 2,054 beds occupied, including 78 in ICUs with ventilator and 545 in isolation wards.

The Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said 268 beds are available in isolation wards and 82 in ICUs with ventilators in 70 private hospitals requisitioned by the AMC.

In rural Ahmedabad, COVID-19 cases rose by 20 to reach 3,094, with the recovery rate being 97 per cent as 3,012 people have been discharged, officials informed.
