The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 1,82,719 on Tuesday with the addition of 1,049 new infections, while 879 patients recovered from the disease, the state health department said.

The state reported five more deaths, raising the number of its COVID-19 fatalities to 3,773, it said.
With 879 patients getting discharged, the number of recovered cases went up to 1,66,468, the department said.
With this, the state has recorded a COVID-19 recovery rate of 91.11 percent, said the department in a release.
As many as 52,960 tests were conducted for the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 65,72,903.
Surat reported the highest number of 183 new cases, followed closely by Ahmedabad with 178 cases.
Rajkot and Vadodara also reported over 100 cases at 128 and 119, respectively, said the department.
Among other districts, Mehsana reported 53 new cases, Gandhinagar 51, Jamnagar 44, Banaskantha 39, Patan 36, Amreli 20, Surendranagar 18, Junagadh 17, Morbi 15, Kheda and Sabarkantha 14 each, Kutch and Mahisagar 13 each, Tapi and Panchmahal 12 each and Bharuch 11.
Out of the five deaths, three were reported in Ahmedabad, and one each in Rajkot and Surat, the department said.
With this, the number of active cases stands at 12,478, out of which 69 patients are on ventilators.
In the adjoining Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli (DNH), the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,249 with one new infection reported from DNH, said the state health officials.
With four patients getting discharged in the UT, the number of recovered cases rose to 3,227, they said.

Ahmedabad COVID-19 goes up by 178; three more die
As many as 178 fresh cases of coronavirus were detected in Ahmedabad district that took the tally of infections in the region to 44,284 on Tuesday, an official from the state health department said.

The district reported three out of five COVID-19 deaths in the state, raising the toll to 1,939, the official said.
Apart from this, 155 patients were discharged from various hospitals, taking the number of recoveries to 39,143 in the district, he said.
According to an official release, Ahmedabad city reported 166 new cases and 141 recoveries, while the rural parts of the district reported 12 new cases and 14 recoveries.
The number of micro-containment areas in the city was revised to 92 after nine such areas were removed and eight new areas added to the list, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) stated.
These areas are demarcated in residential societies, blocks, and streets after new cases are reported, and restrictions are imposed to contain the spread of the virus.
With 442 infections, the city’s north-west zone continues to have the largest number of active cases, followed by the west zones with 433 and south zone with 420 cases, the AMC said.
Of the seven zones in the city, the central zone has the lowest number of infections with 283 patients, it was stated.
In the rural parts of the district, total COVID-19 cases rose to 3,120 with the addition of 12 new cases.
With a recovery rate of 97 percent, the total number of recoveries in the rural areas stands at 3,034, the official added.
Surat sees 183 cases, 1 death; 208 recover
Surat reported 183 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its infection count to 37,734, while the toll increased to reach 1,031, an official said.
He said 208 people were discharged during the day, comprising 165 from city limits and 43 from rural areas, giving the former a recovery rate of 94 percent.
“So far, 26,663 people have been discharged in Surat civic limits. Currently, 13,392 people are quarantined and 8.64 lakh people have been surveyed. Against a bed capacity of 3,046, 356 people are hospitalised,” the official informed.
“The bed occupancy in the civil hospital is 5,21 percent. It is 8.65 percent in SMC-run SMIMER Hospital. The two hospitals collectively have 184 patients,” he added.
Of the new cases, the city accounted for 149, while the rural part of the district reported 34.
SMC officials said Rs 50,720 was collected as fines from 290 persons during the day for violation of COVID-19 guidelines.
In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka continues to lead with 2,102 cases, including 89 deaths, while Choryasi is second with 2,007 cases.
