To commemorate the commencement of the Golden Jubilee Victory Celebrations of the Indian Armed Forces in Indo-Pak War 1971, Konark Corps is organizing a 10-day 1971-km cyclothon on Thursday.

The expedition will commence on November 26 from Lakhpat in Gujarat and culminate on December 6 at Longewalla in Rajasthan, a defence release said.

It will be flagged off by Honorary Captain Gumansing Jhala, 87, a War Veteran of 1971 at 7 am from a border post area Lakhpat in Bhuj, Gujarat. This will be followed by a medical camp at Paschim Dwar Military Station Bhuj at 10 am. The first leg team will be received at Bhuj Military Station at 6:30 pm of Day One.

December 3, 2020, will mark the commencement of the 50th year of the decisive victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the Indo-Pak war in 1971.

Aiming to inculcate the spirit of adventure amongst the Indian Armed Forces & Para Military Forces, Lieutenant General Anil Puri, General Officer Commanding, Konark Corps envisaged the expedition.
The cycling expedition will be undertaken by teams of various formations of the Konark Corps, representatives of the Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard & Border Security Force in the Corps Zone in the border areas. The expedition will be conducted in a relay format in which each team will cover the distance in the earmarked stretch & hand over to the next formation.
The expedition will spread awareness about COVID-19 amongst rural populace with the core theme of Social Distancing-Masks-Sanitisation (SMS), reach out to the Ex-Servicemen, Next of Kin of battle casualties, physical casualties, and differently-abled. The Ex-Servicemen and families will be informed about entitled financial benefits, welfare schemes and efforts will be made to help them resolve their pension related problems. War veterans of 1948, 1965 & 1971 War and Veer Naris will be felicitated during this 10-day expedition, the release added.
