Gujarat on Wednesday reported its highest single-day spike of 1,540 COVID-19 cases, taking the count of infections to 2,01,949, the state health department said.

This is the second time in the last four days that the number of daily cases crossed the 1,500-mark.
With 14 more persons succumbing to the infection, the cumulative toll in the state went up to 3,906, it said.
At the same time, 1,283 patients were discharged from hospitals after treatment, taking the tally of recoveries to 1,83,756, the department said.
The state has ramped up COVID-19 testing for early detection of cases.
A total of 91,459 tests were conducted in a single day at the rate of 1,407.06 tests per day per million population, raising the total samples tested so far to 74,80,789.
Ahmedabad continues to see a surge in new cases, with a total of 349 cases being detected on Wednesday, while Surat followed with 277 cases.
Vadodara and Rajkot reported 169 and 127 cases, respectively.
Among other districts, Gandhinagar reported 81 new cases, Banaskantha 57, Patan 49, Mehsana 45, Jamnagar 44, Kheda 39, Panchmahal 27, Amreli and Bharuch 26 each, Morbi 24, Sabarkantha 21, Anand, Surendranagar and Junagadh 20 each, Kutch 19, Mahisagar 18, Dahod 16, etc.
Out of the 14 COVID-19 deaths in the state on Wednesday, 10 were reported in Ahmedabadalone, two in Surat, and one each in Vadodara and Botad, the department said.
There are a total of 14,287 active cases in the state and 96 of the patients are on ventilators.
The state”s recovery rate further went down to 90.99 per cent, it said.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the total of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,299, with two new cases being reported in Daman, officials said.
With four recoveries, the total number of discharged patients went up to 3,262.
There are 35 active cases in the UT, which has so far reported two deaths.

Ahmedabad count goes up by 341; 10 more die
At least 341 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while 10 died of the infection in Ahmedabad district on Wednesday, an official from the state health department said.
With the latest cases and casualties, the tally in the district has reached 48,349 and the toll rose to 2,003, the official said.

Apart from this, 351 patients were discharged from various hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 43,044, he said.
Ahmedabad city reported 326 new cases and 333 recoveries, while 23 new cases and 18 recoveries were recorded in the rural areas, the official said.
According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, majority of the active cases in the city are centred around its west zone, with 458 infections in the south-west zone, followed by the west and the north-west zones with 451 cases each.
With 328 patients, the central zone has the least number of active cases, it was stated.
Rural Ahmedabad has so far reported 3,418 COVID-19 cases, including 60 casualties and 3,331 recoveries, the official said.
Surat records 277 new cases; two more deaths
The COVID-19 caseload in Surat district rose to 41,050 after 277 fresh infections were detected in the region on Wednesday, an official from the state health department said.
With the death of two COVID-19 patients in the city, the toll in the district has reached 1,056, the official said.
While 187 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the city, 42 recoveries were reported in the rural areas, he said.
Of the latest cases, 221 were detected in the city, while 56 were reported from the rural parts of the district, the official said.
In light of the rise in coronavirus cases in Surat city, minister Kumar Kanani on Wednesday held a meeting with officials of the civil hospital and said that 2,225 beds are currently available in the facility.
An adequate number of ventilators, oxygen, beds, and medicines were also available, he said, adding that a large number of patients were in home isolation.
People getting tested for the virus at government facilities for COVID-19 negative certificates for travel abroad or to other states will have to pay a minimum amount of a little over Rs 1,000 as per a government notification, Kanani said.
According to the Surat Municipal Corporation, 29,124 patients have recovered from the infection in the city, which has recorded a recovery rate of 93.8 percent.
There are currently 495 patients admitted in city hospitals, it was stated.
