AHMEDABAD, DEC 12
A day after opening 10 mohalla clinics to offer free healthcare services in Ahmedabad, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday said it will contest all seats in elections to local bodies in Gujarat, due early next year.
The national executive committee of AAP on Saturday appointed youth icon Gopal Italia as the president of the Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat. Italia will be replacing Surat-based Gandhi ideologue Prof Kishor Desai. Popular actress Nikita Rawal and former journalist Tuli Banerjee have been appointed as the State Spokesperson and the State Media Co-Ordinator, respectively.
Speaking with the media persons, AAP MLA and coordinator of Gujarat unit Gulab Singh Yadav said, “We are pleased to welcome Gopal Italia, Nikita Rawal and Tuli Banerjee to the State Leadership Team of Aam Aadmi Party Gujarat.”
Yadav said that “AAP Gujarat is emerging as a strong alternative in Gujarat. AAP is going to contest all seats in upcoming local elections.”
The Arvind Kejriwal-led party also announced the names of presidents of various districts and municipal corporations.
Gopal Italia, who had hurled a shoe at Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja in 2017 alleging corruption in the state government, was a state government clerk posted at the office of Dhandhuka taluka Sub-Divisional Magistrate under Ahmedabad collectorate.
He was appointed as AAP’s vice-president for Gujarat early this year.
Earlier, Italia had been arrested by the Ahmedabad crime branch for allegedly impersonating a police constable to call up deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and circulating audio clips of the conversation on social media.
