AHMEDABAD, DEC 25
Aiming to replicate the Delhi model of good governance in Gujarat local bodies, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is gearing up to strengthen its organizational structure so as to cover entire Gujarat in the ensuing polls. The party has kickstarted the selection of candidates and the poll strategy, said state unit president Gopal Italia, here on Thursday.
The state committee has announced the appointment of nine office-bearers, including Bhemabhai Chaudhary as vice-president, Jaydeep Pandya as general secretary, and M M Shaikh as state treasurer.
AAP Gujarat in-charge and Delhi MLA Gulab Singh Yadav was also present on the occasion.
Speaking to the media, Italia said that the Gujarat unit of AAP will replicate the Delhi model of good governance in Gujarat local bodies. AAP is the only alternative for both BJP and Congress. With road, education, health, corruption-free governance, sanitation as the poll plank, the party will contest from all local bodies, including the eight municipal corporations.
To a query, whether he would contest in the local body polls, Italia said the party high command will take a call on this. On the selection criteria of candidates, Italia said that the candidates’ contribution to the party and the society will be the yardsticks.
Italia also flayed the ‘name-calling’ of the protesting farmers by the Centre. All three agri laws are favouring the corporate and spell doom for the APMCs.
Senior AAP leaders like Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Raghav Chadha, and Atishi Marlena are likely to visit Gujarat for campaigning, said a party leader.
